That's interesting. I know there's no Pictish language anymore. I wonder if they were just speaking Gaelic. I served my mission over there and there are still a few people in the smaller fishing communities who can speak Gaelic. Of course, as a typical American, all I learned were the swear words.Kids in general these days seem more socially retarded...
None of them date. They hang out. They text. They sit in the same car or room and don't say a word...they text. Then, they go home and whack off to internet porn.
I think that's the sad truth about why these kids are retards.

Saw "Let Me In" on ppv last night. Really enjoyed it. Totally different take on a vampire movie. Very interestingly shot as well. For example, we never the whole time seen the boy's mother's face. I thought for sure that foreshadowed a twist of some kind, but nope. Just never showed it except out of focus. Some really dark depictions of bullying....a great car crash sequence from inside the vehicle.
And also Cloe Mortez is great again. She has seven movies set for release this year and the Kiss Ass sequel in 2012. Wowzers.
EDIT: Looks like a lot of those will not get a wide release or maybe even released at all, but Hugo Cabret looks very interesting,Last edited by UtahDan; 02-19-2011, 09:59 AM.

I almost watched that in a hotel a week or two ago. Do you think I would like it?Originally posted by UtahDan View PostI don't think you know what it is. The vampire is a kid.“There is a great deal of difference in believing something still, and believing it again.”

If by a "severe religious upbringing" you mean "nothing like a severe religious upbringing," I would agree with you. What in the movie could possibly function as the most remote religious symbolism?Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostI suppose the film crudely functions as an allegory of a severe religious upbringing. But that's been done, hasn't it?
Perhaps you are equating the dictatorial nature of the parents with religious oppression?
In other news, I've decided you would really like The Eagle. They dont speak pictish in that movie--the director just has them speak a regional dialect of gaelic.

I actually do. Get it next time and we can see whether I have an idea about your tastes. I have a specific idea about what you will like but don't want to give anything away.Originally posted by LA Ute View PostI almost watched that in a hotel a week or two ago. Do you think I would like it?

We watched the Centurion. This completes our Trifecta of movies about The Roman 9th Legion in England around the time of Hadrian's wall:
King Arthur
The Eagle
The Centurion
Sort of interesting to see the different takes on the same subject.

I really liked The Centurion. King Arthur was not horrible, not good. I don't think I can bring myself to see The Eagle in theaters. Did you like it?

I have been reading a lot of subtitles lately. I watched the "Dragon Tattoo" trilogy from Sweden, based on the books (which I have not read). Plot seemed far-fetched in places, but a solid trilogy overall.
Watched "The Secret in Their Eyes" over the weekend. Filmed in Argentina and it won oscar for Best Foreign Film in 2009. Pace is a little slow, but I thought it was a very good film. Highly recommended."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."
