You do know that Tom Clancy is dead, right? So you're making macabre humor?Originally posted by Katy Lied View PostWell I'm not offended for him. He's still alive to defend his literary offspring.

So is Flynn, due to cancer."Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."
Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

Sounds great.Originally posted by woot View PostEuropa Report -- I love just about any movie that depicts realistic space travel, although admittedly the way it was shot had me assuming this one would devolve into a cheesy slasher (cf. Sunshine). It didn't! Mild+ recommendation."Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."

Anybody watched the Trophy Kids documentary on HBO?
I was glad I watched it -- kind of have mixed feelings on it. Clearly the parents are wacko and taking things way too seriously. But I think kids should be forced to do difficult things that they don't want to do. That's part of what parents should do, just that these parents take it way too far.
The high school basketball player featured is named Derek Biale. His dad is a complete idiot -- says he could have paid for two lamborghinis with the money he spent on his kid's basketball training. Derek ended up at Colorado Mesa but looks like he is redshirting.
Anyway, I recommend it -- pretty entertaining. The mother of two tennis playing twins said the following: "I made a covenant with God on your behalf that you be number one in the world in tennis.”

A few days ago, I would have pegged the likelihood of my seeing that movie at around 1%. But it has a phenomenally high 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and apparently this is by the guys who did 21 Jump Street (a pleasant surprise for me), so I'm in. But not tomorrow. I'll still pretend you're at my side, as going alone to a kids movie is kind of creepy.Originally posted by YOhio View PostDarn. I'm going tomorrow. If we had gone at the same time it would be almost like we went together.
