  • 41,959. Locations were easy, I sucked on years

    Comment

    • 47490. Personal best for me. Got all the locations under 10 km (Brighton Pier was 67 meters!), and 4 years off was my worst. That's a Timeguessr retirement score for me.

      • 38,483. Tried something fun today--FaceTimed with my firstborn and played together, resulting in both brilliant insights and prideful stubbornness that led to a couple of tragic errorsl.

        1) 10,000 We had visited here separately in the past couple of years and guessed her grandfather's birth year.
0 yrs off - 15m. Unfortunately, hubris set in, leading to disaster,...

        2) 4761
5 yrs off - 3197.1 km off. The flag was a major deke and my daughter insisted she was right, to our detriment

        3) 4259 pts
8 yrs off - 2222.9. My turn to insist on a totally wrong location

        4) 9513 pts
3 yrs off - 4.2 km. Familial order restored

        5) 9950 pts
1 yr off - 20.3m With harmony restored, an easy finish

        • 37,582 - another tough one.

          1) 6607 pts
10 yrs off - 393.1 km - I picked Rome instead of Venice.

          2) 6471 pts
5 yrs off - 1857.7 km - Tough to identify location. I was too far south.

          3) 8266 pts
6 yrs off - 8.4 km - I was in the wrong part of town.

          4) 7065 pts
4 yrs off - 1470.5 km - Tough to identify location. I was too far north.

          5) 9173 pts
4 yrs off - 6.6 km - wrong side of the airport.

There's such a penalty on getting the date wrong and I'm typically so far off that I think on those days I get it right I'm just getting lucky.

          • Back to reality: 34986.

Wasn't too bad on the years; 11 was the worst with the others 0-6 years off. But guessed London for Venice and LA for New York (thought 'UC Irvine with the sign). Others were 500km off or less.

            • 36,946, was good on places except guessed Paris on first photo but got crushed on the year in Hollywood and Norway. I have a very tough time differentiating anything in the 2000s and clothing styles rarely help me. Unfortunately 24 years is a big enough spread to cost a ton of points.

Similar mistakes to others. London instead of Venice, Bosnia instead of Norway, Czech instead of Hungary, and Vegas instead of LA. 3-8 years off.

Same. And I picked Finland instead of Hungary.

I also went with London. And my first thought for the LA one was Vegas (In N Out, airport somewhat near the strip, etc.) but then I saw Hollywood - perhaps on one of the tattoo parlor signs - and went with that, not worrying about how close it was to an airport. I knew the LA one was post-2004 because of the "Established in 2004" sign, but placed in 2010 because the apparel and quality of the picture made me think it was much earlier than 2023.

                    Total score of 38,561.

7526 - 5 years, 874.1km (briefly considered Eastern Bloc but went with random spot in Germany instead of Budapest)

The profile on the column in the foreground and the pillars in the background looked like Roman inspired architecture.

That said, there's a lot of Roman inspired architecture throughout the world, but it looked older and nothing I recognized from the UK.

                      • 43,433. Some of my luckiest guesses ever this time, although I don't think this is my highest total score.

                        1) 9108 pts - 0 years off; 392.0 km
I guessed Rome. Just looked "Italian" to me. But after I guessed and then saw it was actually Venice, I noticed the ground was actually water (I think?). Probably would've guessed the correct city if I realized that.

edit: upon further review that's not water, but just blur b/c it's an old photo.

                        2) 8333 pts - 7 years off; 2.9 km
If you zoom in on one of the drums, you can read "Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs" (very blurry though) on it. I guessed a public park in Oslo based on that.

                        3) 8775 pts - 5 years off; 6.3 km
I guessed the Bronx. Just looked like a poor area of NYC.

                        4) 9717 pts - 2 years off; 3.9 km
Super lucky guess here. Used the language on the truck and then picked a location a little outside Budapest.

My closest geographic guess ever. Found the In-N-Out right by LAX.

                        • barely cracked 40k. Biggest miss was I chose London over Italy on the old photo and was off by 8 years. Those dude look british. Best score was LAX. I nailed the year, because that douche Sweet Baby James advertises in LV and I recognize when the bllboards looked like that.
