    • that would be fun for skiing. Looks ridiculous but not anymore ridiculous than buying a helmet mounted GoPro. For $80, much more affordable option.

How does a phone do exposed directly to the cold and wind for several hours? also, if you take a tumble, the iphone isnt moisture proof. The GoPro is.

            • Does anyone else who uses the Wall Street Journal app experience long download times? I'm at an airport now, using the wi-fi, and it took 15 minutes for the latest issue to download to my iPad. This always seems to happen. People will give up on the app if that keeps up.

              • For the developers out there: does Apple charge a fee to be listed? Does google? It seems like there are a lot more free apps on Android than iOS. For instance, that HT app that UD linked--1.99? Really?
That's not the only example: there are plenty of apps available on both platforms that are free on Android, 0.99 on iOS. 0.99 isn't going to kill anyone, but I just find it curious.

that was a deliberate initial strategy on Android's part to be viable against the iOS marketplace. Obviously it worked. You will continue to see remnants of that freeware approach for a long time but the proportions will continue to decrease. You will see more and more "for pay" apps in Android marketplace because developers have to remain viable, especially since more and more developers work cross platform now. It is silly to develop solely for iOS or Android when it isn't much more work to create an app that works on both.

And no, Apple does not charge a fee to list. They take a percentage of sales. They do have to approve the app, of course. that process can be as fast as 4 or 5 business days. In order to be part of the developer program, you have to pay a base annual fee that can vary depending on what program level you want. I have several app protos on my iPad at any given time. I don't develop them but I get to test them

$100 a year for an Apple dev account (individual). $20 or $30 for an Android dev account. Can't remember if Android is once or yearly.

I dig this game--it's fun. My kids like it too, although my wife isn't so excited about that.

Why is it that it seems most of the good games have zombies? I was playing temple run in church last week and finally realized the monkeys are even zombies.

Speaking of which, our church has a new wifi system. No more crappy consumer grade stuff with spotty coverage. Industrial-grade Cisco-based system. Coverage is strong and consistent. The ward clerk owes me a favor so I got the password with no problem.

He told me that they installed these systems all along the Wasatch front. Anybody elsewhere get new wifi?
