MSU is nowhere near a top five team. I haven't just said deep ball. Taysom struggles with accuracy on throws over ten yards, especially if those throws require more touch than a fastball.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostYet another completely meaningless stat given the context.
Yes, Taysom struggles with accuracy on the deep ball. Fortunately he has other strengths that help compensate. None of this negates the fact that he had a fabulous game on Saturday. It is weird that it is so difficult for you to accept that.
Her is a good comparison for you: Navy had a huge upset of 5th-ranked Houston yesterday. They led for most of the game and hung on at the end to win. In the process they completed 3 out of 5 passes. There are probably a few Navy fans somewhere complaining "OK, we beat a top-5 team, but our offensive balance was terrible!".

Hey I'll throw you a bone, his completion to Trinnaman over the middle while evading the blitz was nice. While not a far throw he hit him in stride. We need more of that.

i will say this: taysom was behind guys on stuff a decent division one quarterback should not be off on. e.g., whatever that route to algie in the flat was was a bad throw and if he hits him in stride that play goes for 5-6 more. he couldn't hit juergens over the middle either. but he made a couple of nice throws on the 10ish yard outs though and all things considered i would rather have those hard and outside which he tends to do.Te Occidere Possunt Sed Te Edere Non Possunt Nefas Est.

So if BYU had beaten a top-5 team under the same circumstances, you wouldn't be whining that Taysom was throwing short passes? That doesn't make any sense.Originally posted by Shaka View PostMSU is nowhere near a top five team.

Here are some stats that do in fact relate directly to that point:
On 3rd down, Taysom Hill was 7 of 10 passing (incl. 7 of last 8) for 6 1st downs and a TD (157.6 effic) and 2 runs for 5 yards and 2 1st dns"There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

No it's really not. When you see a high completion percentage but a low YPC it is a red flag. Yesterday the line was doing its job and the receivers were getting open. Why aren't balls getting completed downfield? BYU took those shots in the first half and they weren't working out. Ty adjusted in the second half and we ran the ball and threw underneath because that's what we can do. Unfortunately the team that stuffs our run is going to take away those underneath throws in the effort. I'm not confident in our ability to take advantage of a cheating defense and beat them with a vertical passing game. That's unfortunate for a team that's supposed to be running a west coast type of offense. Taysom is running and reading the defense well but he's still struggling with the throw game because he lacks accuracy and touch. This should come as a surprise to no one because that's always been the knock.Originally posted by old_gregg View Postcome on, that's a silly comparison.
I give a ton of credit to our running game. Had Toledo been able to play just a bit better against the run we get destroyed. Right now we are one dimensional and that's unfortunate.

That stat's supposed to tell the story of the game? Our running game won that game. I'm not going to give a whole lot of credit to a college QB that can hit a short pass for a first down because most college QB's can do that.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostSo if BYU had beaten a top-5 team under the same circumstances, you wouldn't be whining that Taysom was throwing short passes? These numbers don't tell the whole story. Our line and receiving corp have issues but both have improved considerably. Unfortunately Taysom as a passer hasn't improved much.

Why are we fighting? Taysom didnt look like Aaron Rodgers, but he led his team to victory on the road against a P5 school. I'll take it.Jesus wants me for a sunbeam.

It is so weird. Shaka is on some sort of bizarre quest to cherry-pick stats and convince us all why we should be sad about our best victory in a long time.Originally posted by Green Monstah View PostWhy are we fighting?
