THis post is full of half-truths.Originally posted by Applejack View PostAs a Ute fan, I like Bronco because he often loses to my favorite team. But objectively, I'd say he's a really good defensive coach and a so-so head coach; ultimately I'm not sure BYU could do a whole lot better.
I love Sitake, but you are rolling the dice with him as a head coach (as you are with anyone jumping from coordinator to HC). There would be some serious growing pains. He might start to really clean up poly recruiting in-state, but the truth of the matter is that Utah and BYU truly go head-to-head for a small number of recruits every year; sure Utah offers a lot of Spanish Fork Priest Quorum Presidents and BYU flirts with West Valley guys that have deep issues with JS' history of polyamory, but normally both groups end up where they should.
Is there anyone else out there? The Navy coach seems like a huge step down. Andy Reid is not walking through that eternal door. Ron McBride's best years are behind him.
I think Bronco is your best bet.

I wonder. I know we have non LDS coordinators, but I wonder if there is a limit. I wonder if Bronco limited that pool as he suggested he was limiting the recruiting poolOriginally posted by Flystripper View PostCoordinators....not so much.
I have no idea how good these assistants are. To be honest, except for results on the field I have only heard others say Howell was going to suck, but I think a couple of people on this board said he was going to be good.

Since the bishop is president of the priest quorum, neither BYU nor Utah has ever landed a recruit who had served a priest quorum president. Another half truth from Applejack, who, like most ALUFs, isn't very in tune with the workings of the gospel.Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss
There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

P.S. I had to google Chase Loftin. He looks like a solid pick-up: 14 catches at Snow last year!

Lance Anderson is another name people are starting to float, but he has less experience than even Sitake or Ken N.Originally posted by Applejack View PostAs a Ute fan, I like Bronco because he often loses to my favorite team. I am talking about the real scandal. The one that chased off Crowton. That's when I coined the phrase "ALUF" Someone on the Ute forum started his post of with as"an active LDS Ute fan" BYU is embarassing me as a member of the church. The he went into some diatribe about getting rid of sports at BYU. I mean, really you are an acitve LDS Ute fan and now you can dictate how the school you don't support should act?Originally posted by Applejack View PostDon't be dramatic - this isn't a scandal. Now, if you lose to Midwestern Tennessee State, then we might have a scandal on our hands.

You are always going to get varying points of view whenever anyone his hired. Some will love it, some will hate it. Eventually someone will be proven right. Finding coordinators is a much easier proposition though. They may not have to be LDS, lateral hires are a real possibility, and there are more position coaches that might be ready for the jump in responsibility. It is why you see coordinators getting fired and changing teams at greater clips than head coaches.Originally posted by byu71 View PostI wonder. So is the answer then hire better coordinators? Because I think Bronco has shown to be better of late, Howell notwithstanding. I do like 2J, Atuaia, and Holiday. I'm not sure about Beck, and vacillate on Anae.Originally posted by Flystripper View Postyes I remembered it and I disagreed pretty strongly but a head coach is different. It is really sad but it is a solid fact that BYU's head coach pool is excessively shallow. Coordinators....not so much.

Not necessarily but getting rid of Bronco is a very dangerous proposition.Originally posted by originalsocal View PostSo is the answer then hire better coordinators? I think everyone here knows Bronco isn't getting fired. But how long does Bronco realistically coach? Does anyone think he will sign on for more years past 2016? Wasn't the consensus that he only signed a 3 year deal because he wanted to retire? I can see him sticking around if BYU gets an invite into the Big-12 to help the transition, but I think he is probably done after the 2016 season. Some of the names being thrown around now will surely be in play.
