Taysom Hill is one of the top 10 college football players in America. And he plays the most important position on the field. That was a catastrophic loss. It can't be understated and the fact that everyone just seems to be forgetting that boggles my mind. I keep hearing arguments "well Taysom didn't play defense" or "the offense is still putting up points". But that's nonsense. Taysom meant more to this team than any single player. Hell, more than any coach. He gave the team its swagger and confidence. He was the playmaker that elevated the play of everyone else on both sides of the ball. He was the undisputed leader on this team. The one guy with credibility to get in the face of another player. BYU just didn't lose a Heisman candidate. It lost its heart. It lost its identity. Taysom going down was soul crushing.
Then you compound the loss of Taysom with all of the other injuries. Algie, Hine, Jamaal, Kurtz, Blackmon, Kearsley, Mathews, Strigham, Wesley. That's just offense. Leavitt, Bills, JJ, Fua, Alisa, Bronson, Marques, Langi. All guys who have missed games due to injury. Our two best pass rushers have played what, 2 games together? Our secondary is depleted and now young guys are forced into playing with limited reps. Jamaal is our 2nd best player on offense and he's played just 4 games. Even your stacked P5 powerhouses would struggle mightily to overcome these kinds of losses.
Everyone just needs to calm the fuck down. Fire Bronco? LOL. GTFO. And replace him with who? Bronco isn't without his warts, but he's pretty damn good. Give him legit talent, unlimited resources and no limiting honor code and the guy would put together a defense that wouldn't be scored upon. And as DDD said, nobody was spewing any of this shit when we were 4-0, ranked #18, everyone was discussing BYU and the playoff, and Taysom and Bronco were giving interviews daily on all the nationally syndicated radio shows.
BYU gets crippled by injuries and Utah barely beats the most overrated team in the country in UCLA, barely beat a sorry ass Oregon State team in 2OT and barely beat a USC team with a ton of injuries, just 48 scholarship players with 22 walk ons at home and everyone in Utah fucking loses their minds. Get a grip folks.
