Taysom Hill is one of the top 10 college football players in America. And he plays the most important position on the field. That was a catastrophic loss. It can't be understated and the fact that everyone just seems to be forgetting that boggles my mind. I keep hearing arguments "well Taysom didn't play defense" or "the offense is still putting up points". But that's nonsense. Taysom meant more to this team than any single player. Hell, more than any coach. He gave the team its swagger and confidence. He was the playmaker that elevated the play of everyone else on both sides of the ball. He was the undisputed leader on this team. The one guy with credibility to get in the face of another player. BYU just didn't lose a Heisman candidate. It lost its heart. It lost its identity. Taysom going down was soul crushing.

Then you compound the loss of Taysom with all of the other injuries. Algie, Hine, Jamaal, Kurtz, Blackmon, Kearsley, Mathews, Strigham, Wesley. That's just offense. Leavitt, Bills, JJ, Fua, Alisa, Bronson, Marques, Langi. All guys who have missed games due to injury. Our two best pass rushers have played what, 2 games together? Our secondary is depleted and now young guys are forced into playing with limited reps. Jamaal is our 2nd best player on offense and he's played just 4 games. Even your stacked P5 powerhouses would struggle mightily to overcome these kinds of losses.

Everyone just needs to calm the fuck down. Fire Bronco? LOL. GTFO. And replace him with who? Bronco isn't without his warts, but he's pretty damn good. Give him legit talent, unlimited resources and no limiting honor code and the guy would put together a defense that wouldn't be scored upon. And as DDD said, nobody was spewing any of this shit when we were 4-0, ranked #18, everyone was discussing BYU and the playoff, and Taysom and Bronco were giving interviews daily on all the nationally syndicated radio shows.

BYU gets crippled by injuries and Utah barely beats the most overrated team in the country in UCLA, barely beat a sorry ass Oregon State team in 2OT and barely beat a USC team with a ton of injuries, just 48 scholarship players with 22 walk ons at home and everyone in Utah fucking loses their minds. Get a grip folks.
I feel like this was something I should have wrote. Well done.

Besides, I already said I was moving for directed verdict. Surfah is just my expert witness in case the judge is too scared of being overturned to grant my clearly meritorious motion.

Is the verdict unless admin and BOT decide they will do what it takes to get big time, there isn't a coach in the world that would get us there and this angst against Bronco is just because he is abrasive and not that he isn't a good coach?

I've really enjoyed this thread. In fact, I enjoy all threads that focus on whether the Utes will be in the playoffs (they won't) and whether BYU will fire their coach (they won't).

                Carry on!

As a Ute fan, I like Bronco because he often loses to my favorite team. But objectively, I'd say he's a really good defensive coach and a so-so head coach; ultimately I'm not sure BYU could do a whole lot better.

I love Sitake, but you are rolling the dice with him as a head coach (as you are with anyone jumping from coordinator to HC). There would be some serious growing pains. He might start to really clean up poly recruiting in-state, but the truth of the matter is that Utah and BYU truly go head-to-head for a small number of recruits every year; sure Utah offers a lot of Spanish Fork Priest Quorum Presidents and BYU flirts with West Valley guys that have deep issues with JS' history of polyamory, but normally both groups end up where they should.

Is there anyone else out there? The Navy coach seems like a huge step down. Andy Reid is not walking through that eternal door. Ron McBride's best years are behind him.

I think Bronco is your best bet.
