What's so humorous about those expectations for BYU's program? Show me which of those expectations you don't expect from BYU's football program.

Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

Um, no. There is this magic tool called google that you can use to look these things up if you are so inclined. Under Lavell, BYU never finished 1st outright and didn't go bowling. In 1995, BYU finished tied for first and did not go bowling.

EDIT: I failed to note that in 1977 BYU also tied for first in the WAC and did not go bowling, despite being ranked in the top 25.

What's your point? I at first worked from memory, and then checked out schedules. My point is in today's world, even those few teams that failed to go bowling would have gone bowling today.

Lavell meets the reasonable expectations I have for the football program he built.

Here is my point......even a broken clock is right 2 twice a day. Someday, with google's help, you might reach broken clock status.

I hope the program starts doing some of that stuff, but college football today and back then are two completely different animals.

I'm not sure its reasonable to expect that the program maintain the standard set by our very best and most successful coach of all time. Its not reasonable to expect our high water mark to be the norm.

As a BYU fan I want to make a case for this fanbase to pull the fucking string. We are in need a serious string pulling reformation.

I just had to get that off my chest. Also I have no plan to go to the games the rest of this year and unless Taysom returns I doubt I renew my season tickets but this end of the world garbage gets old. We are what we are and with better luck this could have been a spectacular year. There is nothing in this recent spat of games that indicates all of that is lost. We were a good team led by a great player with a fortuitous schedule. Well he got hurt, as did a hell of a lot of others and now we are struggling to be an average team. Mendenhall is still a good coach. Probably not a great coach but a good one and likely one better than this stringpulling fanbase deserves. If you pussies are not complaining about Joseph Smith it is Bronco Mendenhall. PTFS. You will be happier and the womenfolk will respect you more.

I'm choosing to mostly ignore your fatuity here and instead overwhelm you with so much data that you'll maybe, just maybe, realize that you have reams to read on this subject before you can contribute meaningfully to any conversation on this topic.

True dat. However, because of Lavell's success, BYU has more football resources now than it had then. Remember when the stadium was about 40,000 or less? It looked like a glorified Texas high school football stadium.

It seems BYU has a narrow swath of time to stay with the P5 programs. If it doesn't have a stellar season soon, it will be left behind most likely and BYU will become a basketball and Olympic sports school once again. BYU would compete well at the FCS level, but that would not be so fun.

Especially when that high water mark doesn't even meet his standards.
