The analytical side of me would like TCU with its FBS-best 26.5 ppg winning margin to get in. Now that I've heard everybody talk here and on TV I think 50% chance it's Ohio State, 25% each for TCU and Baylor to get in as the fourth team. Will be interesting to see what happens -- can't wait.

They've each lost one. TCU's loss is better.

Head to head should trump that all day, every day.

These discussions remind me of the 2000 season. Oklahoma was undefeated and a lock for a spot in the BCS championship game, but the second spot was highly debated. In the end, a one-loss FSU team went over a one-loss Miami team that had defeated FSU and a one-loss Washington team that was ranked behind Miami even though Washington beat Miami that season.

3. Florida St
4. TCU

I think the committee has shown since they began their ranking how heavily they factor who a team has lost to, trumping head-to-head (as illogical as that may be, they've shown that's how they prioritize it). TCU, Baylor, and Ohio State all had their one losses prior to the first CFP ranking, and the first one had TCU #7, Baylor #13, and Ohio St #16; they've never had Baylor higher than TCU. TCU's loss looks better than a 14 pt loss to WV and a 14 pt loss at home to VaTech.

I do know that. And that is why Baylor is the best team in the Big 12.

Baylor lost to WVU, who TCU beat. TCU had a stronger SOS. There are arguments in favor of both. I think TCU has a better resume, but Baylor won the conference according to the rules (until Bowlsby decided to chuck the rules and award two trophies).

I don't know why it would be illogical to look at each one-loss team's loss rather than head-to-head. Putting more emphasis on Baylor's head-to-head win over TCU completely ignores the fact that they lost to WVU by 14. Seems like comparing losses is a more logical and fair way to pick a winner than looking only at the head-to-head. If TCU had lost to a team identical to Baylor, but with a different name, there would be no question that they would be ranked ahead of Baylor. TCU has the better resume overall.

With that said, there is something a little disgusting about deciding this kind of stuff based on style points and resumes. This isn't figure skating ... the winners should be decided on the field, not by a group of egg-heads with all kinds of political biases. The only fair playoff will be an expanded one with a guaranteed bid for conference champions.

Guarantee they are in? Of course not. Improve the odds? Absolutely.

I think the committee may punish the Big 12 for not.submitting a champion. All things considered, that loss at Baylor was crazy. But you can also look at it and say TCU gave up 24 points in less than 12 minutes and Baylor went an a tear against a really good team.

The Big 12 should have.sucked it up and presented Baylor as the champ.

As for comparisons of Ohio State to Baylor/TCU, Ohio State played one southern team, Va Tech and got its ass kicked. That's something we've seen numerous times from them. If they get in, they'll be playing Alabama who will proceed to throttle them. I can't definitely say the same thing would happen between Alabama and Baylor or TCU.
