Also, Taysom running the read option in the 4th when the game is no longer in doubt was infuriating. There was no reason for him to be in there. We already lost him on a meaningless play once... do we really want to repeat that? The coaching staff seems hell bent on it.
There's plenty of time in the 4th to take the foot off the pedal after getting 3 more scores in the third.

That was the best performance this year from our line, however.

    • Well that was brutal but really not unexpected. With Hill and Williams playing well and BSU having the worst set of LB's they had in ten years I thought BYU would rake up some points but I also expected BSU to pile on some points. It only took a game and 1/2 for BSU to score an offensive TD against BYU. I'm not sure having Southwick in there would have made any difference. BYU D > Reno D and the turnovers just killed any chance of making it a game. It was fun and most everybody around us was very kind but no fan base is excluded from having a few dickheads in it and we had a couple behind us tonight.

        So did we.

agreed on all accounts. the 2nd half was so frustrating to watch. going for 4th down in BYU territory was gutsy as all hell (or the result of not changing the downs on the chains) and seemed to be what the Broncos needed to get things going. it is a shame that we were not able to capitalize outscoring BYU in the 2nd half despite 3 effin' turnovers. Ajayi seems to have a good career ahead of him but he has a case of the fumbles something fierce. One costly fumble takes away a nice 150+ yard game. i thought that Fields did a decent job with filling in right after the fumble. SWR is exciting to watch. That kid is a playmaker! It is a shame that he is 5'6" (that is what he is listed at but he sure looks like a 7th grader on the field). Hedrick played about as well as expected with a few shots down field but he needs to take the air out of his throw or he is going to struggle. I liked how he extended plays with his legs and that TD throw across his body after breaking the tackle for a loss was pretty. I am a bit surprised that CPete did not open Kedrick up a bit a few more designed run plays. That being said, with Southwick out, he needs to stay in the pocket and be protected as much as possible.

The defense looked absolutly lost and winded at the end of the first half. This game should have been closer to 51 or 58 to 20. Thank goodness Anae seems to struggle in the second half planning. When he calls the dogs off and trys to milk the clock the offense struggles. BYU does not transition well from GFGH to clock management, understandably so. Damarcus Lawrence should have had a huge night against a weak o-line but did seemed quite despite 5 tackles and a sack. The d-line could not wrap up T-Hill.

That kid is special. It is a shame that you guys did not have this offense with the last few years of the dominating defense. How much of a drop off on defense do you expect the next two years of King Taysom's reign? I know that is Bronco's bread and butter. The next two years should be special in Provo. Congrats on the win.

Defensively, missed tackles were your biggest problem IMO. We broke a ton of first attempts.

Taysom said Tuesday night that they don't script anything. I think Anae has in his head core things he wants to accomplish, which is running the ball. I think he's felt like teams are going to stack the box unless BYU shows that they'll beat you otherwise, so he comes out and shows them that they can't. When they get numbers in the box, I think he forces the run a little too much. I think he does a good job identifying during the week areas to attack, but may struggle making adjustments in game.

Having said that, it's been tough to complain much about the offense lately. We have been putting up pretty large numbers. We have averaged 38 points per game during the five game win streak, against decent teams. About the only real critique IMO is the red zone offense. The turn around from last year is astounding.

Pits the timing of the calls. Lasike and brown in the backfield, run a sweep? Another sweep at the 8 yard line? Punting on the 34? Forgetting the TE in the second half?

                  Just wierd.

                  • That was a fun game. There seemed to be way more energy than the GT game.
Nothing to add except that if we're going to lift the foot off, then milk the clock. The GFGH 3 and outs that took 90 seconds were driving me crazy.

At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

I think that is also the result of GFGH. We can't sub out the personnel we want in there for certain plays. But at the same time Anae has to keep defenses honest by running the same plays with different guys. Otherwise defenses will just key on certain players and formations.

As much as I bitched about that 3rd quarter, we still put up 10 points and over 100 yards of offense. I think just not being able to convert those turnovers into points was what bothered me. That said, Anae did seem to get awfully comfortable and conservative. I think this is a team that is too comfortable with its defense taking care of things and an offense that does not know how to play while being ahead. They have their opponent by the throat and let go. This team needs a killer instinct still. It's really all it is lacking. Last week it nearly cost us and it may have again tonight if it weren't for Boise giving us the ball back over and over.

Yep. Taysom said in the post game they got conservative and they know the defense can take the three and outs because they're so good. He said they need to work on that.

                            • Surfah is right. We are being nit picky, really nothing to complain about. This offense is so good when its clicking you just expect a score every time.
