I usually pay attention to KVN a lot during the game, but for some reason, I didn't pay as much attention. I just saw he only had 2 tackles. I know he had a pass break up and a fumble recovery. It was just an innocent question.

I am very sorry to have upset Bishop Vandelay.

I wasn't speaking unto CS collectively, not individualy. Actually, yours didn't seem whiny at all, more just an inquiry.

      • So I guess Apo's shoulder has been popping out of socket all season? Someone mentioned that after his catch over the middle last night his shoulder was completely mangled and he never came back into the game. I'm assuming this is the same one he had surgery on for a dislocation? I wonder if he'll need another one after this season? Anyway, maybe the kid's tougher than I gave him credit for. Can't be easy to go out there and try and catch balls with your shoulder popping out all the time.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

        • Will Danny miss multiple weeks? Nice to have the bye next week, but it seems like these guys getting dinged in the head are taking 2-3 weeks to really come back. And when was the last time we had this many concussions? weird.

He's looked good the last couple of weeks. I've felt a little badly for some of the, uh, anatomy comments Id made about him, especially considering the shoulder issues that he hasn't brought up but have been lingering.

I get that "only 15 yards of field position" seems really insubstantial, and it isn't a huge amount. But typically if you can pin an opponent inside the five, you really limit their playbook, and almost force them to run the ball. When you can make a team one-dimensional/predictable, especially when it plays into your strength, you give your team the chance to get the ball back, typically quickly, and with a short field (see: end of Houston game last week).

If you don't down the ball inside the five, those 15 yards aren't insignificant, especially when your defense is forcing a team to drive down the field in chunks. I may look and see what Boises average drive was last night, but I would wager that adding 15 yards to an average drive is the difference between points and not.

And you make a good point as well, but we seemed to let a few of these get in to the end zone last night and so it didn't end up being as good as it's been at times for us.

I'm all for pinning them inside the ten if we can do it, but our guys weren't getting under the punts as well. I see both sides. I just thought we did poorly on our plays in that particular instance, and was really unhappy we ran it up the middle on third and 9.

                • Saw a fair amount of Merrill Taliauli last night - #54 at NT.

Hadn't noticed him before. True Frosh. Huge ass.

Well, Danny Sorenson was out, and he is one of the better gunners in the country. I believe had he not been out, at least one of those punts gets downed.

On the run on 3rd and 9, you're playing conservatively for points. A sack potentially puts you out of FG range. The way last years game went, 3 points was huge. Even sat night, the last FG essentially kept the game out of reach. Yes, a TD would be nice, but playing for points isn't an indefensible move there either.

I serious find the bitching about the game last night comical. We beat a good Boise team by 17 points last night, in a game we put up almost 600 yards of total offense. Yes, we have room to improve, but at any point after the half did anyone feel like BYU "might" lose? I didn't. Seriously, enjoy the win and understand the Bronco plays the game like we have an elite defense, because we do. We are still a better defensive team than offensive team, and so I'm glad he coaches the game that way. We don't have to play to out score teams week in and week out.

I'm not bitching. Super happy how it went, happy how the team has played against a quality schedule overall. Boise seems to make these incredible comebacks so when it was within 14, I was a little bit nervous. My BiL said the same thing as well. It was a nice win against what I think is a quality opponent. And I'm glad we don't have to outscore teams like we did against Houston. really liked how the offensive line played, they seemed improved to me after getting pushed around in some games previously. Thrilled at the progression of Taysom. I like our chances in the rest of our games. I'm going to Wisconsin and think it'll be a great game and atmosphere.

Apo mentioned it during post game last week. Says it sometimes pops out when he is just running.
                        Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Independence for us I like better and have said so many times. Is it comparable to what Utah has. Only someone with grand delusions would think that.
Utah is 8-16 in the Pac12 and will likely miss another bowl game. They seem to be getting worse, not better. Their recruiting has not taken a serious step up as everyone thought it would. We are dominating them in recruiting battles this year. The only thing delusional here is the idea that Utah is going to turn into some powerhouse because they are in the Pac12. All you have to do is look at a team like Washington State or Iowa State to see how fallacious that is.

If your measure of football success is based on revenue, then I will concede that BYU will never be as good as Utah until it joins a major conference. In every other way, the future looks brighter for BYU than Utah, IMO.

Whit is overrated as a coach. They will need someone better to compete regularly in the Pac12. Can they get someone? It may be pretty difficult. There aren't a lot of advantages at Utah that would attract a top tier coach. They would need to strike gold again with someone like Urban. Odds of that happening seem slim.

Taysom and Bronco both said the plays weren't scripted during the coaches show last week. Anae seems to do fine figuring things out in the fourth. I don't know why he limits the passing in the third quarter, but I don't think it has anything to do with scripting.
