Just got home from the game and started watching the broadcast. Looked like a defender may have gotten a finger on the missed FG.

At a minimum, he hasn't gotten in the way. I suspect he has had more to do with Taysom's progress than that, but at least he isn't screwing him up. That is more than you can say for some coaches.Originally posted by Commando View PostNobody ever mentions Jason Beck. How much credit do you s'pose he deserves in all this?

I guess the reason I say that is because really... when was the last time we had a QB GET BETTER other than John Beck between his Jr and Sr year? Max was always pretty good, but there was no real jumps or drops. Taysom is throwing better, reading better, scrambling better... I dunno. I guess I'd have to ask Taysom and Jason.Originally posted by UVACoug View PostAt a minimum, he hasn't gotten in the way. I'm not smart enough to know what kind of progress Hall and Beck made under Doman. I suspect that there was more progress than a lot of fans think. I don't think either were NFL worthy QBs when they began being tutored by Doman, but both ended up playing in the NFL ... though not to much success. I guess it might be possible that they developed to that level naturally, but I suspect Doman had something to do with it.Originally posted by Commando View PostI guess the reason I say that is because really... when was the last time we had a QB GET BETTER other than John Beck between his Jr and Sr year? On the other hand, I think Taysom is as smart a QB as we have ever had at BYU. He knows how to play the game and makes great football decisions. That stuff can't be taught in a few months. I think some of his progress has to be credited to him gaining confidence and the game slowing down for him. Jason Beck surely deserves credit too. Time will tell whether he is better than Doman was with talented QBs.
I am confident about one thing though ... Doman was not very good at coaching middling QBs and coordinating an offense at the same time.Last edited by UVACoug; 10-26-2013, 08:33 PM.

Oh, and props to Triplet. There were lots of good tickets available for cheap just before the game."I think it was King Benjamin who said 'you sorry ass shitbags who have no skills that the market values also have an obligation to have the attitude that if one day you do in fact win the PowerBall Lottery that you will then impart of your substance to those without.'"

How does one go about doing this to get a decent deal? I've never done it before.Originally posted by Pelado View PostOh, and props to Triplet. There were lots of good tickets available for cheap just before the game.
I saw a couple guys selling tickets before the game. They bought some tickets from a couple guys and he only gave him like 10 bucks per ticket.
So, it sounds like they can still make a good deal by doubling that price. I'd be interested in hearing anecdotes of how this goes from some of you guys that have done it.Will donate kidney for B12 membership.

You mean anecdotes about buying tickets at the game? I am no expert, and I am pretty confident I am not ever getting the best deal possible, but it's pretty simple to get a decent deal. There's no magic method (at least that I am aware of), you just find some guys selling tickets, and when they say "These are great seats and I'll give them to you for only $60 each", you say "I'll give you $30".Originally posted by The_Douger View PostHow does one go about doing this to get a decent deal? A couple of things I try to do:
1. I carry a seating chart of the stadium, since I am almost never at LES, and am generally unfamiliar with the layout. Sometimes scalpers aren't completely honest about how good the seats are, and when they say that their seats are right on the 50 it's nice to show them your chart and say that they look like they are closer to the 20.
2. Try to talk to a few guys to see what the market is like. Also to get a feel for how many tickets are out there. If it is 30 minutes before kickoff and there are a ton of tickets still around, you aren't going to have to pay face value.
Not only am I not an expert at this, but I don't always do it. Most of the times that I go to a game, I am already spending a few hundred bucks on travel, hotels, etc., so I don't stress that much about paying an extra $20 bucks per ticket if they are easily available from somewhere. Having said that, often it is the only decent way to get good seats (at least by the time when I usually get around to thinking about tickets). A good example of this was the Virginia game. There were a decent amount of tickets unsold, but they were up in the corners. Good seats on Stubhub were selling for something like 50% over face, and you knew there were going to be plenty of empty seats. I think I probably could have gotten good seats for $15 a piece there, but I am not a good negotiator, so I got them for $30 or something, sitting at the 40 yard line 15 rows or so up, right above BYU's bench. If I remember correctly PH may have paid less than me for good seats, using the same method.Last edited by Clark Addison; 10-27-2013, 06:22 PM.

With all due respect to my amigos FN Phat and RCV, I am starting to believe those stereotypes about BSU fans. Yowza."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."
