I can't stand watching a BYU QB complete under 40% of the passes. It's just ridiculous. It makes Riley Nelson look decent.
People who make a lot of money making coaching decisions and whose livelihood is on the line with the success and failure of the offense think Taysom gives the best chance of winning games. A shaky O-line and receivers who drop passes that hit them in the hands suggest that they have a point.

But no, less than 40% is not acceptable. It is troubling to see a basic inability from a D1 QB to put the ball where it needs to be. A great many of those completions, after all, came by way of Taysom scrambling around until the defense broke down rather than solid passing.

My first worry from last night was that we are continuing to play less well than what we are capable of playing. That worry has given way to the worry that we are playing every bit as well as we are capable of playing. It's just not enough.

I just saw a stat from this week's games that the favorite in Vegas won (straight up) 57 of 59 games. The two upsets were Memphis over Arkansas State and Utah over BYU.

Is Vegas just trolling us? Honestly, I'd pay 1000 dollars for a BYU win at this point, so maybe next time BYU's favored, I should just go put 1k down on Utah and if BYU wins and doesn't cover, I paid 1000 bucks. What would happen most the time is that I'd just get 2000 dollars in return because Utah always, always covers.

I'm very careful about these kinds of judgments, but I wonder if the call would have happened if Rowe were white.
I haven't seen as much of you as most on here but you are getting worse at this. You are a cartoon of yourself at this point.

            • And just to make the dire seem especially bleak, let's try counting to six.

Remaining nine games, listed in order of what I suspect are the most likely wins to least likely:

Idaho State (by strictest definition, they do technically play football).
Middle Tennessee State (never heard of them. Hope that means something)
Georgia Tech (home game; they run an offense we are peculiarly designed to stop)
Nevada (don't know how good they are, to be honest)
Houston (generally, a decent C-USA team; road game)
Boise State (a down year for them, but they are still solid, and we haven't beaten them yet)
Utah State (played well against Utah, and it's at Logan)
Notre Dame (at South Bend; they look solid)
Wisconsin (at Camp Randall; one of the better big ten teams)

Which of these five teams will we beat?

              • I see us beating Idaho State, MTSU, Houston, Nevada, GaTech, and maybe Boise.

                7-5

Ha. I wish I had looked at it this way yesterday. I had no idea what was going to happen yesterday--i was much more skeptical about our OL than most--but I would have been happy to give up some money for a good win.

                  Maybe San Francisco.

At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

                  • Very fun and exciting game to watch. Pity BYU did not score at the end. Hill is young and very talented. He will be great, I believe.

                    Utah is very well coached.

                    • I thought I was over this loss when I went to bed but I woke up pretty depressed. I finally think I'm to a point where I won't believe we will beat Utah until it actually happens. And yet as a sports fan I'm a glutton for punishment and really want a rematch at the end of the year.

                        3. Meh, throw it to Hoffman anyway.
That is an excellent synopsis of Riley's progressions last year.

I was really disappointed in the O-line last night. They couldn't pass protect which led to lots of rollouts (still without great protection), which led to even greater inaccuracy from Taysom.

Why the hell can't we get an accurate QB with solid pass protection?

I'm just a battered fan at this point. I just expect to lose.

I took my son to the game and he just has fun no matter what we're doing, so that made it easier for me. I just enjoy doing stuff with him.

                            • Adam Dingwell from SDSU has the worst passer rating in the nation. Taysom has the 2nd worst.

Hill has the worst completion percentage in the nation right now. He has completed 35.1% of his passes after 3 games.

He was at 50% last year and it's not like USU's defense is a bunch of slouches.

                                I just don't know why he's regressed.
