Not immediately after his performance against Notre Dame.

Uh... Denard lost the game single-handedly last year, and many people were calling for his head. The entire fan base adored him, but quite a few were wishing the coaches would move him to RB or the slot. I didn't agree at the time, but in hindsight I think Michigan would have won at least as many games.

I love that Texas hired Greg Robinson (aka GERG among Michigan fans). His MO includes rubbing a stuffed beaver on the face of the MLB on the sideline during a timeout.

He was somewhat handicapped at Michigan for various reasons, but still. This won't end well. It's still probably good that they fired Diaz, because I don't know if any of M's defenses were as bad as Texas' was last night.

First of all, I was thrilled with the win (I have multiple CS witnesses!). One of those classic wins you never forget. But allow me to put on my Texas hat for a minute.

That defensive performance was an abomination. Most rushing yards allowed in school history. Nine more yards for Hill and he would have beaten the all-time record for rushing yards by a QB, held by none other than Vince Young. Mack Brown firing Diaz is like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. Last season Texas gave up the most yards in a single season in school history. They got blown out for the third year in a row by Oklahoma. All of this while having access to the creme de la creme in the heartland of HS football. What the hell did he think would happen this year? At some point, all that capital that Mack built up during the good years just won't cut it anymore. He should have fixed the problem in the off-season. This mess is on him.

Firing "Reassigning" Diaz is about 9 months late.

One thing I liked is that the coaches really stuck with a scheme. How often in the past have we asked ourselves why the coaches started passing when the run was working (or vice versa)? Last night, they stuck with the run, knowing that Texas wasn't going to do anything to stop it. I was surprised that Texas didn't really make any adjustments at the half. Like Commando said, why not try to make Taysom pass? That said, I'm glad they didn't. On a different note, did anyone else catch the interview with KVN on KSL last night? KVN said that Fua has more talent than he does, and we saw some of that last night. That should help lessen the blow when KVN graduates.

As I sat here wondering what I was watching I allowed myself to wonder why the hell couldn't this team do this last week. Now I can make all kinds of plausible excuses as to why we lost to UVA and there are good ones (e.g., first game, difficult weather conditions, the game delays, Hoffman out, ironing out the wrinkles of GFGH) but I am convinced that if we beat UVA last week we don't beat Texas last night. Losing to UVA the way we did forced BYU to make changes they needed to. Much like last night's game will force Texas to make changes they need to (see ya Manny).

Anyone could have, but I called that.

Being able to recruit in the most fertile area in the US. Austin>Tuscaloosa. No state income tax. The opportunity to win a championship at his 3rd school cementing his legacy. Winning would be much easier in the Big 12 than the SEC.
