Nice job by Eddie George calling the two biggest Top 25 upsets this week.

What'll happen is Texas will go 6-6 and not end ranked.Originally posted by UVACoug View PostI just can't wait to see how people explain how this wasn't a big game ... since we know BYU is not capable of winning big games.
On a more serious note, Anae received a lot of undeserved shit from a lot of so-called BYU fans this week and deserves a lot of credit (along with his staff) for putting this performance together. It should not have been surprising that it would take some time to put this offense together, and the strides they have made in just a week are insane. There is still a ton of room for improvement. Taysom can throw a pretty ball anywhere on the field, but it doesn't always go where it needs to go and he and his receivers are not on the same page in terms of running routes. That is stuff that can and will get better. Comparison of Taysom to Riley are idiotic. Riley did not have anything close to the arm strength and mechanics that Taysom has. Calls for Ammon Olson are even dumber. You would think that after tonights performance, people would be praising Taysom. Instead, I heard several dumb asses call in to KSL and 1320 suggesting that Taysom was merely a clone of Riley and should be benched for Olson.
What should not be in dispute is that the offense we saw tonight was better than anything we have seen since Anae left. Tonight was a huge victory for the coaches as much as anyone else.
It's a signature win in my book. You don't get a lot of chances against Texas at home. We sent them packing and even if they have a bad year, it's Texas so it carries some weight.
It doesn't matter how we rebounded if we don't beat Utah, though. Beat Utah and Virginia loss is completely forgiven. If you're going to lose, lose early. People forget about it if you get some nice wins after. Will donate kidney for B12 membership.

Which was wrong. Not blocked and they hit the punter from both sides. There was a ref on each side looking right at it and no call. I could possibly understand not calling the first contact. It was pretty light. But the second contact was a flag in pretty much every other play.Originally posted by Coach McGuirk View PostThats what he said at the stadium.A man who views the world the same at fifty as he did at twenty has wasted thirty years of his life. - Mohammad Ali

It's nice for the team to actually win a game where you aren't favored and to see the coaches come out with a great gameplan and not do anything stupid during the game. I was glad to see the kick a FG late in the third quarter instead of give in to the temptation to go for it on 4th and 1. I felt that was the right choice at that point.Originally posted by BoylenOver View PostCongrats, Cougs. Impressive win. Will donate kidney for B12 membership.

Give Hill and the offense all the credit in the world. That wasn't a lucky performance. That was complete domination. I haven't ever seen such domination from a BYU team. Other opponents will adjust and we won't see a performance that good the rest of the season, but we have the ability to beat anyone with this team. I still think we lose a few more games this season (the offense is too young), but this team is going to be amazing when Taysom is a senior and can out balls on target.Originally posted by ERCougar View PostGreat read. My favorite of a few lol lines:
' bizarre tackling/hugging encounter session that ended in a gentle missionary position with the BYU punt returner as the ball plopped gently fifteen yards behind them.'
I really have no idea how much credit to give Hill and the offense either.

And they really didn't want to call that blatant kick-catch interference where Texas blew up a defenseless Falslev. It was only after one of them looked up and caught the replay that they threw the flag.Originally posted by CardiacCoug View PostGotta say I wasn't impressed with the refs.
Pretty dangerous horsecollar tackle on Williams went uncalled in the third quarter. The first roughing the kicker was a bad no-call.
The ref seemed like he had some early dementia.Last edited by UVACoug; 09-08-2013, 10:23 AM.

BYU abused them physically and it was a fairly equal opportunity affair, as each one of them had their very own special highlight where they quit on a play or were stood up more often than a Match.com chick with a ten year old profile pic.hahaMason Walters continues to play with the pad level of a WNBA center on her period. So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

The PI call on Povey on 4th and 17 in the 4th quarter was also atrocious. By the end of the game Texas' OL was blatantly holding on every play because they knew the refs wouldn't call a thing. They were awful. Some of worst reffing I've seen since the MWC.Originally posted by ERCougar View PostI was listening for it, but couldn't hear of his explanation.
Didn't know that. I agree that it looked like he was pulled by the jersey.
So, I guess I was wrong on both. Outside of those two really baffling no-calls, which I guess were correct, I thought they did a nice job of staying out of the game. I thought each team got away with a marginal PI (not seeing it on TV, so I could be wrong there too), but outside of that, they were fine.

I hate angry BYU fans because we just get whiny and pull string. Other fanbases can just get enormously hilarious. That pad level line is great.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PosthahaDo Your Damnedest In An Ostentatious Manner All The Time!

Taysom Hill will develop into a decent D1 passing qb during his junior year and from that time forward he is going to be flat out lethal.Originally posted by Omaha 680 View PostComment from Ute fan in my ward: "BYU has three really good running backs but no quarterback."
Maybe he means Hill is just a running back.
He is a weapon. Last night was a blast but I am one of those who believes we can get too high and too low. My positives are I am amazed at the OL improvement. I think that might really be legitimate. I am in a strange place as BYU is a good college football team with a great defense and an offense that appears to have more big play capability than consistency. Strange. I am excited to see what the Y can do against the Utes. The Utes have good DL, will be much better coached than Texas and will play much, much harder. It will be a test of BYU's will.Do Your Damnedest In An Ostentatious Manner All The Time!
