this week, we all saw that adjustments were made to address serious deficiencies in the offensive scheme.

Not sure what this means for the rest of the season, but I like this new approach of public-facing accountability. Big credit to Bronco and Anae for putting a team out there that looked prepared and mentally ready to go from the opening kick.

    Bring on the Utes!!

ps I'm a little surprised to read a few posts about the electricity of the stadium. For the most part, I thought it was dead and really quiet except after big plays. I blame a lot of that on the weather. Electric environments permeate throughout the entire game. I spent more time during the first half trying to ignore the Texas band and straining to hear any noise from our band. Also, where is the student section? Didn't even know we had one.
We were very loud the entire game over in our area, so maybe it seemed louder to me than it really was.

I was extremely disappointed that the student section was not full. If we can't fill the student section for Texas, we need to think about reallocating some seating. Of course looking at the fringes of the stadium, I could see that the game was not sold out either. Probably a factor of the cost BYU was charging per seat in this game.

Don't worry about people stealing your ideas. If your ideas are any good, you'll have to ram them down people's throats.

We have a good DL to work out the kinks. Bronco indicated that last week they hit the right assignments but sacrificed quality to keep up the tempo, and that they worked on quality this last week. I could maybe buy that--it's hard to simulate tempo in practice. But is that just coachspeak?
That's a dang good question. Like you I don't know the personnel well enough to say one way or the other. And why couldn't they figure this out before going against one of the best defensive fronts in football in practice? All I know is that last week Ryker was getting destroyed by Harold at LT. To be fair to him though he did have two hip surgeries in the offseason and reportedly still isn't 100%. UVA's interior tackles kept getting through our gaps to stuff the inside run that was so effective yesterday. Alletto was the only constant to remain in the middle and that makes sense as center. Wesley played pretty well last week, probably our best OL in that game when he was in and I like him in at guard if we're trying to run up the middle. Dude is a monster and he was downfield a lot last night. Kearsley got in last night too and looked pretty good. Still not sure about Stringham at RT. He had two false starts. Kearsley had the other. But I have to say for GFGH the unit hasn't had the procedural penalties I would have expected. Yeck did okay at LT. He did a good job running his end line whenever he tried to crash inside which produced a couple big plays outside.

The crowd sounded pretty loud on TV. On a couple of those big 3rd downs the wide all 22 camera was shaking.

Official attendance was 63,197, in a stadium with an official capacity of 63,725. Probably a bigger factor was the weather delay. I also wonder if you don't have students crowding the first bunch of rows.

              • Gotta say I wasn't impressed with the refs.

Pretty dangerous horsecollar tackle on Williams went uncalled in the third quarter. The first roughing the kicker was a bad no-call.

The ref seemed like he had some early dementia.

                • Rewatched part of the game before church. Amazing how much pressure our D got without blitzing. 3rd and 16 in 2nd quarter. We drop 8 and Van Noy hurries Ash into bad pass.

Yeah, both of those misses were baffling and drew a lot of booing.
The only thing I can figure out on the first was that it must have been a partial block? Did it look that way on TV?
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

                      • I just got off of a flight with a bunch of UT fans, and am on a parking shuttle. Lol. This is pretty hilarious. Despondent. One woman didnt go to the game - was in SLC for a wedding - and just asked how it went. Hearing the recap was hilarious.
Awesomeness now has a name. Let me introduce myself.

Don't think it was a block -- again the ref seemed too confused to explain, but I thought maybe he was saying the Texas player was blocked into the kicker.

Thats what he said at the stadium.

It looked like from my point of view that on the Williams tackle the defender grabbed him by the jersey on his back, not the collar of the jersey/pads, so that wouldn't be a penalty. The hands have to be inside the collar for it to be called.

I was listening for it, but couldn't hear of his explanation.

Didn't know that. I agree that it looked like he was pulled by the jersey.

So, I guess I was wrong on both. Outside of those two really baffling no-calls, which I guess were correct, I thought they did a nice job of staying out of the game. I thought each team got away with a marginal PI (not seeing it on TV, so I could be wrong there too), but outside of that, they were fine.
