You're partially right. I've lost count over the number of people I've run across who think the U. is in Provo. And that's just in my own family, the overwhelming majority being non-LDS.

why do you guys keep saying or insinuating BYU blew a big chance to go to the Big 12? It's clearly not true. Stop deluding yourselves. Your AD stated unequivocally there was no offer. There just wasn't.

I've never spoken to someone who more than casually follows college sports that confused BYU and Utah.

On the flip side Utah's new found and confusing hand sign has caused people to wonder why Miami occasionally wears red Under Armor unis.

Do you (and DDD for that matter) not recognize the difference between the two hand signs?

When has BYU ever been talked about more, without being in the top 10, let alone top 25? I have come to dislike Independence, much more than I anticipated. However, to act like BYU has ever been more than an occasional blip on the national radar, is revisionist history. The only difference I see, is our old dance partner (Utah) got invited to the prom, while we are still home waiting for someone to heart-attack us - granted our old honey is still fat, ugly, and has a nasty case of acne, but that is beside the point.

To my knowledge, BYU has played in exactly one semi-big bowl (1996), and had two basketball runs, 30 years apart, that were headline news. Otherwise, we usually beat bad teams, play competitive against similar competition, and generally lose to better teams. We are no more or less relevant than we were a decade ago, and likely will be about the same a decade from now. We are who we are, why is that so hard for most to accept?
I'm not convinced "BCS access" is critical. The formula for success IMO is exposure, good competition and wins. BYU is now on ESPN, they have a forum. Now they need to win those games against TCU, Texas, and Utah. Those were all winnable games and HUGE missed opportunities.

I want them to be in the best available conference. I think November will be tough as an Indy and I think it's good to have "something to play for". If that's the Big East then fine. But the key is winning big games, especially when people are watching. If they do this, everything else (revenue, recruits, exposure) will fall into place. Just win baby.

Keep winning BYU, it'll work out.

Even today most casual, and many more-than-casual, PAC12 fans confuse Utah and Utah State.

Thanks, I meant to say the exact same thing in my previous post, but got distracted and submitted before finishing my thoughts.

Barring an immaculate invitation, to the B12 or Pac16...The formula is the same for BYU this year, as it was last, as it will be next- if you want to be relevant win ALL your games. Otherwise enjoy the trip to..umm..where is the Armed Forces Bowl played?, instead of Vegas each December.

Admitting this is even more painful. Watching something die is one thing, killing something that you built up in your mind over the years is potentially devastating.

Seriously, what kind of morons mistake Utah and BYU or Utah and Utah State? I submit there is no such thing that really matters. The same kind of morons that think Africa is a country? I mean seriously, especially in this age, you'd have to be illiterate and live in a closet and with an IQ of below mentally retarded to not know BYU is the Mormon university, and Utah, like every other state, has its public universities, even if you had no specific knowledge of the University of Utah. You'd have to be equally stupid and out of touch to not know there is a Univeristy of... and a ... State in Utah just like everwhere else. Who cares about such people, if they really exist.

When people hear BYU, they think of Mormons. When people hear Utah, they think of Mormons.

I challenge you to go to a real sports bar in Seattle to watch the Utah/Colorado game and talk to the folks that are there. Ask them the difference between Utah and BYU.

Yep even the incredible football mind of Lee Corso made that mistake recently -- something about Utah playing at home in Provo. That was overlooked because of the F-bomb he dropped later in the show.
