Yeah, probably. Gricar disappeared without anyone knowing anything. IIRC, they found his car near Harrisburg, and a couple of years later found a piece of his laptop's harddrive in the Susquehanna River. Everyone assumed it was some kind of mob-hit. Eventually, they had to presume he had died and hold a special election. Sad story with no answers."More crazy people to Provo go than to any other town in the state."

I've had similar feelings. As I said earlier, I'd like to think I'd do the right thing, but seeing others do what, from the outside, is so obviously the wrong thing makes me wonder how I'd react.Originally posted by BoylenOver View PostI don't know about you guys, but the development of my self-identity was tied strongly to sports, both as a participant and a spectator. If Sandusky had been my coach 15 years ago, I could've been one of those kids. If Sandusky had been a mentor or family friend, I could've been Mike McQuery. If Penn State was my favorite college, I could be one of these students expressing outrage over the way Paterno was fired. And that scares the shit out of me. It's really caused me to re-evaluate how much sports means to me, and what role they play in my life. Most of these people are decent humans just trying to find a way to win the next game playing the right way; some are flawed; and some are downright evil.
I also agree with DDD - I don't want any more details. I can't imagine being the prosecutor, investigator, or jury member for this case and having to listen to every detail. It will change their lives, and not in a good way.
This is also a wake-up call for me as a parent: it's hard to be too cautious, and always better to err on the side of over-protective.sigpic

I would have thought Michael Jackson would have ended that one.Originally posted by jay santos View PostThis should settle the no-sleepover debate.
Oh wait, he was Michael Jackson and is still revered by millions worldwide.
People are lining up to condemn PSU (rightly so), but Jackson is honored and his death mourned.Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!
For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Ask anyone in my HS class of 900+ what sports team atheistcougar was a fan of, and they would all say BYU. I'll spare you all the details, no one cares anyway, but that is why. I identified with BYU football far more than I did with the religion itself. They are supposed to be separate, right? So I figure why sweat it and just support the team I've always loved.Originally posted by BoylenOverI don't know about you guys, but the development of my self-identity was tied strongly to sportsDon't worry about people stealing your ideas. Ever since my divorce I have not allowed my girls to have friends over for overnights. I'm in the same boat. I haven't even read the grand jury report, and don't intend to. Ths reminds me of a time when I was young and had an offer to join the L.A. District Attorney's office. I asked one of the veterans if the job had changed him Because of all he had seen. He told me it had, and not for the better. That was a big reason for my decision to go another direction.Originally posted by cowboy View PostI also agree with DDD - I don't want any more details. My wake up call as a parent is that I need to instill in my kids that they always do the right thing even if the consequences could be bad (getting fired for example).Originally posted by cowboy View PostI've had similar feelings. Sandusky faces 460 years. My guess is that all of it will be in ad-seg or else he will be killed very quickly.

Top PSU HS recruit sez: On second thought.....pass.
http://msn.foxsports.com/collegefoot...-school-111011
I don't see how PSU can recruit this season or in the near future. What do you say when you go to the kids house this winter? What do you tell the parents? You can't even tell them basic stuff like who the head coach will be next year, who will be on the coaching staff, or whether there will be NCAA fallout. Not to mention everything related to the development and safety of the recruit.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

This is my takeaway as well. We are already pretty protective as far as aware of potentially risky situations. What has really had me thinking is the actions of McQueary and Paterno and others who chose their personal comfort over doing the right thing. I think we'll have an FHE on that topic.Originally posted by Mormon Red Death View PostMy wake up call as a parent is that I need to instill in my kids that they always do the right thing even if the consequences could be bad (getting fired for example).

Penn State is screwed. Not only the athletic department, but also the entire university is going to feel this in a big way. Donations will slow, top faculty could leave, good luck attracting the best up-and-coming faculty, good luck attracting the best and brightest students, good luck on attracting student athletes. Basically if you have options you are not going to choose PSU for many years.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostTop PSU HS recruit sez: On second thought.....pass.
