I agree that the affect may be different for a boy or a girl. I guess I'm trying to say that I wouldn't think any differently about what should be done with the perpetrator whether the victim is male or female. I also don't think whether the victim is male or female should have changed the responses of the individuals that were aware of the abuse. As I lead this army, make room for mistakes and depression

You're the one wanting to join the Cornhusker fan club despite "a longtime hatred of NU". Suggesting that Nebraska would consider boycotting a game against their designated cross-division rival in the Huskers inaugural season in the Big Ten is idiotic - short of a mandate from Jim Delany. Not to mention the relationship between Tom Osborne and Joe Paterno...Originally posted by atheistcougar View PostAs if that makes a difference.
So you fail any basic test of "becomming their [Nebraska's] newest fan". In other words, we don't want you - it does make a difference.“Not the victory but the action. Not the goal but the game. In the deed the glory.”

Hell, even thinking it was a suggestion is idiotic.Last edited by lambdacoug; 11-10-2011, 02:48 PM.Don't worry about people stealing your ideas. If your ideas are any good, you'll have to ram them down people's throats.

It's less shocking to me because, while equally as horrible, male-on-female rape is much more prevalent, and there are more controls in place. If I see Sandusky raping a little girl in the shower, it's an awful, evil thing, but I know there was never a sliver of justification for why they were in a shower together. If I walk in on Sandusky raping a little boy, I think my mind would try to cope by justifying why they were in a shower together.Originally posted by mpfunk View PostIf you were talking about a girl that was 14+ years of age and showed some signs of sexual a maturity, it would be less shocking. With a 10 year old though, I'm not any more or less shocked if it is a boy or girl.
That's just me. I hope it doesn't minimize how I feel about rape, because sexual abuse and assault is damaging regardless of age or gender."I don't know the origin of said bitch booming."-Art Vandelay

Yes - and I didn't misunderstand you. You just got me thinking about things differently. Everything I said is relevant only for helping victims. Not for reporting or punishment.Originally posted by mpfunk View PostI agree that the affect may be different for a boy or a girl. It saddens me that this kind of behavior was acceptable in many cultures in the past. I sure hope we make sure it's not acceptable now.Awesomeness now has a name. Let me introduce myself.

Yes, that is the aspect I was thinking about. I don't see a difference, personally. Both crimes are equally horrible, just in different ways.Originally posted by The Notorious J.I.C. Yes. And I think as men we are naturally more protective of women and less sympathetic to other men or boys. But when you stop and think about why you might incline that way, it completely falls apart. I agree with your statement 100%.Originally posted by LA Ute View PostYes, that is the aspect I was thinking about. I don't see a difference, personally. Got to be an exaggeration.Originally posted by Color Me Badd Fan View PostThat's true, but I'm not ready to completely believe it because the conspiracy grows larger and becomes less plausible. It's one thing for other programs to hear about Sandusky and decide to stay away from him, but it's another thing for a pimping operation to be in place because that involves more boys, more parents, more communications that can be uncovered and none of it was revealed in the grand jury report.
I'm certainly not saying it couldn't have happened, but right now it's just a rumor.
But if Pen State helped to cover up molestation in return for Sandusky going quietly, that's enough to terminate the sports program or some other death penalty equivalent.
I remember being shocked when I read back in the heyday of the priest pedophilia stuff that the public schools had an abuse rate equal to the Catholics. But I never expected it in a respected university, in connection to the football program.I think, perhaps, the only person who hates BYU fans more than ute fans hate BYU fans, is Bronco Mendenhall.

I haven't followed this thread very closely so this might have been discussed already. I just heard that McQueary is the recruiting coordinator. If he recruited me to go to school and play at Penn State knowing what has happened there I would pissed right now. All other parts of this aside, no way he can have credibility with those guys. Sandusky was there last week. To be recruiting kids into that kind of environment is disturbing and disgusting.A man who views the world the same at fifty as he did at twenty has wasted thirty years of his life. - Mohammad Ali

You have to think current players will be transferring in droves as well as already pledged recruits.Originally posted by CJF View PostI haven't followed this thread very closely so this might have been discussed already. I would hope the NCAA allows them to transfer without penalty, like they did with USC upperclassmen.Originally posted by Blueintheface View PostYou have to think current players will be transferring in droves as well as already pledged recruits.A man who views the world the same at fifty as he did at twenty has wasted thirty years of his life. - Mohammad Ali

Boy, I don't know how I could hate Craig James more, but his comments about Paterno and Penn St are so out of touch and misdirected, it makes my blood boil."I don't know the origin of said bitch booming."-Art Vandelay

I'm very loosely paraphrasing, but he said the players should use Paterno's firing as motivation, and that the Todd Blackledges, the Kerry Collins, the Ki-Jana Carters are all in full support of them. He also talked about how Paterno was Penn St "when I covered Penn St in the mid-90's, and even when I was a player in the '80's".Originally posted by DU Ute View PostLink? What did he say?
Even when you remove his involvement in the Mike Leach firing, his comments were just pure bullshit."I don't know the origin of said bitch booming."-Art Vandelay
