Also. If Sandusky is in the celebrity death pool thread, I'm taking him. I'd guess he is going to kill himself very soon.

When all is said and done, I am not saying that I would assault the guy. You do exactly what you said. You get the kid out of the situation. Period end of story.Originally posted by creekster View PostI disagree. You dont have to assault the perp. You just have to stand there and make sure the kid is removed from the situation. There is no explanation this perp could give, absoultely none, that could persuade any rational person that this kid should be left in his company. You get the kid the hell out and then figure out where the chips fall. I just cant see it any other way.Last edited by Hot Lunch; 11-09-2011, 02:12 PM."Take it to the Bank"

Wow. Unbelievable.Originally posted by Jacob View PostI agree with BO and Live here. I've heard so many people say how swiftly they'd react to bring justice upon the offender and save the boy. But that is mostly just big talk. We've seen time and time again that people are loathe to interfere when they witness something they perceive as wrong. When I first read the Grand Jury report, I thought the GA acted reasonably and so did Paterno. Based only on the fact presented in the indictment.
Yes. The GA should have taken more decicive action and punched Sandusky in the face, called the police, etc. And yes, Paterno should have insisted that his superiors took more action than they did. But they fulfilled their legal duties. They acted to prevent the incident from happening again. They failed in not taking the role of enforcer more upon themselves. I agree, they had more of a moral duty. But unless there are additional facts of Paterno or the GA sweeping Sandusky's actions under the rug, I'm fine with giving them the benefit of the doubt. I can't get in a rage over Paterno's failure to do more absent additional information that would have required it i.e. he knew of the 1998 investigation, he was always suspicious of Sandusky, he had heard other reports.
The Penn St administrators are rightfully being charged with crimes. They fulfilled neither any legal nor any moral duty. And for the President to come out after the indictment begame public and give such a strong statement in favor of the perjurers, is a great indictment on him, in my view. He knew more, as did they, and they are all just trying to save face now, and preserve their jobs and reputations. Too late for that.
I've read that in Pennsylvania the legal duty is for an employee/witness of such an act it to report it to his superior. Both the GA and Paterno did. So did the janitor. Their supervisors failed. Paterno and GA are not going to be charged with anything."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

Yeah, even something as closing a door real hard or clearing your throat to let your presence be known and then sticking around, calling cops, etc. is not horribly difficult to do. But to walk away knowing that a grown man is raping a young boy? I would hope most people would have a greater sense of duty than that.Originally posted by Hot Lunch View PostWhen all is said and done, I am not saying that I would assault the guy. Yup. If you come upon that act, you do what you need to do to save the kid. It's probably as simple as yelling stop, grabbing the kid, and watching your back until you can call the cops. But if you have to beat the shit out of him to do it you get a few extra pats on the back.Originally posted by Hot Lunch View PostWhen all is said and done, I am not saying that I would assault the guy. There was a thread on this earlier, and the OP took the position that intra-prison abuse may violate the Constitution, but it does not offend me in the slightest to know that if Sandusky ends up in the can, retribution will be administered ten fold. I know of first hand experience (not me or my family, but something I became involved with due to my calling) what kind of hell and turmoil it causes is someone learns that a loved family member* is a pedophile. Calling the police on your own flesh and blood is the hardest thing I've ever seen someone do.
I have no idea if the GA viewed Sandusky similar to a father figure or not. It does not excuse or justify walking away, but after seeing something similar up close and personal, I can understand it.

I'm amazed how many people are willing to give these people a pass for breath takingly immoral behavior because they arguably followed the letter of the law. The law often allows what honor forbids.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostWow. Unbelievable.
On a separate note, they are making a massive error by allowing Paterno to retire at the end of the season. He has shown for the last ten years that he is willing to shamelessly act in his own best interests and not those of this institution, but this time they should not let him. I think the integrity and future of the institution is at stake here and that everyone even tangentially related to this should be immediately, at a minimum, be put on administrative leave. The longer they wait to act and the more they dither the more the perception of implicit acceptance grows. If it were my alma matre I would be demanding exactly that. I really do believe the future of the whole institution is in some ways at stake here. They need to act like it.

And then McQueary went to his office and called his father? What about the child? You observe a 10 year old boy being raped and you leave him there with the rapist? You then go and discuss options with your parent? I cant fathom this.Originally posted by LiveCoug View PostSandusky saw Mcqueary.
For that matter the GJ report syas the child saw McQ as well. How could you have that child look in your eyes and then leave to call your father? Inexcuseable.PLesa excuse the tpyos.

Absolutely agree. Didn't he say the thing that drew his attention was an audible slapping sound? This kid was getting raped hard. The failure of this man to protect an innocent is inexcusable. The fact that he now enjoys the position he does, one he is seemingly unqualified for, suggests to me a huge degree of complicity for a lot of people in buying this man's silence.Originally posted by Hot Lunch View PostWhen all is said and done, I am not saying that I would assault the guy. Also, the dead prosecutor is an angle I would like to know more about. Prosecutors don't just turn up dead inexplicably very often.
