Darn it. I was hoping to see Heaps play and then fail spectacularly for one more team. Oh well.

Tough break. While I'm sure there are multiple cautionary tales embedded in the Heaps saga, I must say I was really rooting for him to get a paycheck in the league. I think he conducted himself with a lot of class, despite some pretty trying personal circumstances. I'll always consider him a BYU guy.Nothing lasts, but nothing is lost.

One of the grandest benefits of the enlightenment was the realization that our moral sense must be based on the welfare of living individuals, not on their immortal souls. Honest and passionate folks can strongly disagree regarding spiritual matters, so it's imperative that we not allow such considerations to infringe on the real happiness of real people.

Having sort of lived through the Heaps saga through you guys, I can say that this kid had to deal with absurd, crushing expectations. I say this because nobody else assumes they will be in the NFL just because ESPN ranks him top drop back passer among high school seniors; or even assumes that he will start in college. And it was BYU fans and their sense of entitlement and his arrestedly mature parents who created those fantastic expectations. How many kids with his HS credentials never start in college? Zillions; it happens all the time. How many guys like him has Alabama or even Arizona had on their rosters the past 10 years? Now he's saying he wanted to stay home and go to UW all along, and play for Sark. If anyone has a really good reason to hate BYU it's Jake Heaps. The poor kid. BYU is an awful place. When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.

See what I mean? You guys are so myopic and self-deluded by imagined BYU mystique. Is he the first four star you've ever signed? How easy do you think it is to get where you all and his parents presumed he would get? Of course if he'd gone to UW you'd have ripped him to pieces. When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.
