And it was BYU fans and their sense of entitlement and his arrestedly mature parents who created those fantastic expectations. How many kids with his HS credentials never start in college? Zillions; it happens all the time. How many guys like him has Alabama or even Arizona had on their rosters the past 10 years? Now he's saying he wanted to stay home and go to UW all along, and play for Sark. If anyone has a really good reason to hate BYU it's Jake Heaps. The poor kid. BYU is an awful place.
My guess is that if he had gone to the U, he would have won the Heisman.
One of the grandest benefits of the enlightenment was the realization that our moral sense must be based on the welfare of living individuals, not on their immortal souls. Honest and passionate folks can strongly disagree regarding spiritual matters, so it's imperative that we not allow such considerations to infringe on the real happiness of real people.

This has nothing to do with the University of Utah. Guess what. Now everything does.

      • Not your best work, SU. Stick to critiques of BYU and church culture that don't expose your complete lack of knowledge about sports in general or football in particular.

The PAC-12 defenses would have taken care of that.

          • Jake Heaps got to attend some very good academic universities during his college tour: BYU, Kansas, and Miami.

              Me too.

I know many hate the perceived ego from the presser he, Apo, and Stout held. But I like to think that if I was a top ranked recruit, I would tell the world that I was going to BYU and any good players who wanted to win should come play with me too!

And when I win the Heisman as a freshman, you KNOW that during my acceptance speech I'm telling all the potential recruits that I'm going to be at BYU for 3 more years and they should come play with me!

Just out of curiosity - could you point me to all of the ESPN #1 rated drop back passers who DIDN'T think they would be going to the NFL?

You really think an 18 year old kid who hears that freaking ESPN wants to cover his choice of colleges live on TV isn't going to think he might be good enough to start in college? Keep in mind, for these kids this happens at the end of months and months of getting harassed by football coaches from the most storied programs in the country and being told by EVERYONE they meet who cares about football that they're the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Wait, you probably have no clue that ESPN even does that kind of thing because you never watch it because you're so much better than we lowly riffraff who follow sports. Keep digging though. You're making us all laugh hysterically.

I will give you credit for calling the Jake Heaps bust. I was referring to this the other day. People hate when you get it right and while you get it wrong a lot, like participating in bizarre sex themed social clubs, on Jake Heaps you were correct.

Reminds me of Benji Kemoeatu. Biggest recruit in years for the Utes. Legacy kid, has two NFL brothers that played at the U, and he decides to play at West Virginia to be close to his brother who just signed a deal with the Redskins. Ute fans destroyed this poor kid, they ripped him up and down. His dream school, the one he grew up roaming the sidelines at. Watching his big brothers play. They turned on him for wanting to be close to his family. He gets depressed because of the pressure and ridicule he received from the Ute fan base, fails to qualify for a D-1 school and ends up at a JC. This time he won't let the Utah fan base down, he doesn't want to feel the hatred anymore. He commits to Utah, but again the expectations put on him are too much, he is still struggling with the depression caused by his own fan base a few years earlier. He eventually drops out of school and goes in to seclusion. Last week he dropped dead while working on the family farm, no doubt of a broken heart. Ute fans will forever be held accountable for that.

On the other hand, is it really that impressive considering he has about a 100% record in predicting that any recruit that chose to go to BYU would be a bust?

Silly BYU fans with their lofty expectations for the #1 rated QB prospect in the nation. Don't they realize that zillions of 2-time state champion, #1 nationally rated QBs NEVER GO ON TO START in COLLEGE?

*By the way, he was a five star QB, not four. And not BYU's first.

ESPN and Rivals both had him as a four, not a five star. ESPN only gave him an 80 score. 80s are not unusual; even Utah's had a bunch of them. ESPN rated him the eighth best HS senior quarterback in the country. He was only a five star in your minds There was absolutely no reason for all these overblown expectations. HS players like him are a dime a dozen. Even then he was no Kobe Bryant.

Of course he was no Kobe Bryant, Kobe Bryant is African-American and played basketball.

Scout had him as a 5 star and the #1 QB in the country. http://www.scout.com/player/75646-ja...year=2009&s=73

Of course BYU has had QBs ranked that high before, Utah would know nothing about that.

                              • A player named Kahi Neves who has an 80 score and four stars from ESPN has committed to Utah for 2016. Have his parents hired a publicist? Was there a press release? How often do Ute fans post about him?

                                http://espn.go.com/college-sports/fo...254/class/2016

Look at all the 2016 players over 80 on ESPN who are considering or committed to USC; there is even a 94!
