As much as a buzzkill as this is, I'm relieved that we don't have that palpable contention behind the scenes now. I'm curious as to Apo's move now- he seems to be finding his mojo on this team even with the QB who throws worse than commando from CUF...

Of the schools on his list Cal makes the most sense:Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostIf Crist is leaving, Heaps should check out Notre Dame. They need someone ASAP.
wazzou- Connor Halliday (RS FReshman)
Washington: Price (Soph) Montana (RS freshman)
USC: Scroggins (Soph), Wittek (Freshman)
Cal: Maynard (Junior). Cal does have 3 other 4 star recruits on the roster and a 4 star coming in this year.
No matter where he goes he will have competition. Oddly enough staying at BYU would be his best chance to start after a redshirt year.*Banned*

UW has about 10 QBs on their roster and are bringing in two more highly regarded QBs in this class.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostI do think his list of schools is curious. He's going to have a lot of competition at UW, WSU and USC. If I'm him I'm looking for the path of least resistance to starting, and I don't think he finds it at any of those schools. For me Cal is the no-brainer.
If Heaps has any sense he won't go to UW. Unless he really just wants to go home to Seattle and isn't worried about football. WSU has a lot of good young talent, but maybe he sees Leach as a possibility.
As a Utah fan, I'm curious if Chow reaches out to him at all. It would seem his chance to start in the PAC12, if it's the PAC12 he wants, might be best served at Utah.
Note: I'm not all that interested in him playing at Utah.

Umm, Pac 12 football isnt really known for its defenses. In fact, they just arent very good as a whole.Originally posted by camleish View Postif i was jake i'd probably be trying to end up at eastern washington. he would really shine there in an offense that throws 45 times a game. and ewu would give him the a much better shot at a longer football career than playing pac-12 defenses week in and week out.

I'm certain he's going to WSU under Leach.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostOf the schools on his list Cal makes the most sense:

I'd be more willing to buy this if it didn't look like what Heaps needs is more improvement on the mental aspect of the game, his physical tools look more than adequate to get the job done.Originally posted by Portland Ute View PostMaybe the kid is as polished as he could get. This was one of the knocks on him coming out of HS...that he had been tutored and groomed and polished and coached from a very young age and that, perhaps, he was already a finished product.
If that's the case, then this is a story of a kid that recruited some very nice talent to BYU and then couldn't cut it himself. No reason to hate on the kid for maxing out before college.
Question: Do any of those guys decide to leave? Wasn't he particularly close to Apo and Van Noy? BYU's really worked with Van Noy, so I wouldn't see him leaving. What about Apo? He seems like he's in a position eligibility-wise to transfer and still have a nice career.

Some people have "it" mentally, others do not. I'm not saying the guy is a functional idiot, but maybe he just doesn't have the mental capacity to get the mental part of the game? Maybe he's too emotionally fragile to ever learn to be mentally tough?Originally posted by Hsaru View PostI'd be more willing to buy this if it didn't look like what Heaps needs is more improvement on the mental aspect of the game, his physical tools look more than adequate to get the job done.

John Beck is a similar case study, he found "it".Originally posted by Portland Ute View PostSome people have "it" mentally, others do not. PU, I am interested in him playing at Utah. Very interested. Come on Norm reach out to Jake!Originally posted by Portland Ute View PostUW has about 10 QBs on their roster and are bringing in two more highly regarded QBs in this class.

Note: I'm not all that interested in him playing at Utah.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

That would be a great idea. WSU has Connor Halliday who is a redshirt freshman and played very well down the stretch. Halliday will start next year as a Sophomore as Heaps RS.Originally posted by Viking View PostI'm certain he's going to WSU under Leach.
I doubt a guy that is a two year starter is benched in favor of Heaps.*Banned*

I'm curious to see what Apo does as well. Pretty much the main reason for him coming to BYU was of Heaps, and now that he is gone I think he is going to re-evaluate his situation.Originally posted by Commando View PostAs much as a buzzkill as this is, I'm relieved that we don't have that palpable contention behind the scenes now. However, I think Apo is fitting into the program pretty well with Riley taking the snaps. Although we may never know, I speculate that this may be what's going on behind the scenes: Jake's friends are abandoning him and he feels like he needs a fresh start somewhere else.

What I strongly recommend is start scouring DIIAA colleges that you've never heard of and are discontinuing their football program. That should bear some fruit.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostThere is plenty of blame to go around.
Riley still has a crappy arm and will be hated by half the fanbase next season, even more if Jake somehow succeeds elsewhere.
Jake is quitter, allegedly lazy, immature, and a bit of a moran. He has a lot of potential upside on the field. Karma says he will wind up at Kal where he continue the longstanding 50+ year tradition of failure to go to the Rose Bowl.
Bronco mismanaged the QB situation and now finds himself in a load of problems.....fragile starting QB with zero backup plan. That should sound familiar to Ute fans.
USC is not going to w.a.s.t.e. a precious scholarship on Jake Heaps, so he can forget that option. When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.
