I watched several games of both Lark and Nelson up close and personal in high school. Literally on the field in one of those cases. Nelson was better than Lark. Not by a lot but he was better. I interacted with many coaches at the state tourney when they went head to head and not one said Lark was better than Nelson. Virtually all of them thought Lark was a better college prospect simply because of his size and arm. However, that doesn't equate to better QB.

      • Very interesting information regarding Jake Heaps
I apologize if this makes you roll your eyes with disgust. I have never claimed to have "sources", and I have never passed on information that I have received, but I am not about to do it for the first time. I recently spoke with a friend of mine that is very well connected to the team and the school, and he told me that there is still a pretty decent chance that Jake stays, redshirts next year, and then plays his junior and senior seasons as a BYU Cougar. From the information I received, Jake is realizing that he was listening to people that weren't giving him very good advice, he reacted to it, and then said he wanted to transfer. Now, he is reevaluating things and is considering, I am told, to just stay put and fulfill his commitments. Take it for what its worth, but considering who I got it from, I definitely think that is what is happening. Whether Jake, feels like he can go back on what he has said or not, is a different story. But, he is definitely rethinking his situation.

I've actually had this gut feeling the last couple of days that the coaches haven't fully given up on him coming back. There's a lot riding on him in terms of continuity of the program, and given Bronco's parting comments, I've wondered if there was enough goodwill there for him to salvage this thing.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Yeah, I think Jay kind of alluded to that at one point. But damn, kid would get crushed.

That is such bullcrap. Every coach thought Riley was a better QB? Will you please disclose your relationship with the nelson clan? I watched that state championship game and Lark was running for his life the whole time while Nelson enjoyed an eternity in the pocket. Good luck evaluating apples and oranges. Funny how your boy nelson was the 'better qb' but no one wanted him in college. You would think some college outside usu would have taken a shot on such a high caliber QB. I guess all you need is a big body and arm and you can get high level D1 schollies.

By the way, you standing on the field for a game doesnt mean shit. Nevermind, I take it back, it means you are related to nelson some way and you had a poor view for the game.

Sometimes players request a release in order to check out options. While I doubt this was Jake's initial reason there is a chance he's starting to see things aren't always greener on the other side of the fence.

I'd wager, considering the stuff that hasn't yet been made public. that Bronco would let him come back.

Wouldn't that be something? As one who has turned on him and called him a quitter, I'd take it back and welcome him with open arms.

When I say I as on the field it means I was involved in the game in an official capacity moran.

If you went to the state championship game then there's good chance you saw me on the sideline, in the Crimson Club Room, or in the press box where the college and high school coaches sit. Pretty much what happens is we all sit around talking about and evaluating the various players. The number one reason Lark was recruited over Nelson, this includes both BYU and Utah coaches, was Lark's physical attributes. Lark was a fine high school QB and deserved the recognition he got. However, he was not a better quarterback than Nelson.

I have no relationship to the Nelson family. In fact I've never spoken a word to any member of his immediate or extended family (as far as I know).

I developed an appreciation for his game by watching him play. I'm not going to get into my qualifications as an evaluator but suffice it to say I played, coach, and officiate the sport and have watched a great deal of football. Opinions vary but I have an above average knowledge of the sport.

thanks for the resume. You should have used your vast knowledge of football and called all those dumb ass D1 coaches to tell them that they were looking at the wrong kid.

If you are such a great evaluator of talent, you should be able to realize that Rileys success at BYU has been against inferior teams, with good talent around him. Lark with proper coaching could easily pick apart the same teams. The jury is still out about rileys greatness.

Actually, BYU coaches realized on their own that they overlooked Riley and that there were reasons to grab him. Lark has had the same coaching everyone else has. I enjoy how you make excuses.

I realize Riley has done the exact same thing Jake did (only better I might add) and that is win against inferior teams.

I joked around with DU Ute about his reading comprehension yesterday, but you've got serious problems. You've missed the majority of Shaka's points.

I believe I did tell him to kiss my ass in another thread.

I think he's the one that needs to be explaining his hard-on for Lark. Maybe he's family.

Whatever the case he says very little of substance.

Ill have you know that I too played football, coached it, but I never did officiate it. You got me there. You win, your football posts are really great. And our coaching staff has done really well grooming our current qb's. I mean how could you argue that?

Thanks for taking it easy on me!
