All of you guys calling Jake a pussy and quitter make no sense. The easiest road back to becoming a starting QB for Jake was at BYU. He was guaranteed to redshirt next year and start for 2 years at BYU.

By transferring he is actually making things more difficult for himself. He is redshirting either way whether he stays or goes but now he has to learn a new offense and compete for the starting job after his redshirt season.

Clearly it is not competition he is worried about otherwise he would have stayed at BYU redshirted next year and taken the easy way back to becoming a starting QB.

This is why the only explanations are he lost favor with the team and knows he can't win them back or he doesn't trust the coaches. I'm thinking it's a little of both.

I'm sad to see him fail, but BYU will be fine.

Heaps set BYU freshman passing records for yards, touchdowns and wins while starting the final 10 games as a true freshman in 2010. The highlight of his season came in the 2010 New Mexico Bowl, where he passed for 264 yards and four touchdowns to earn offensive MVP honors in a 52-24 victory over UTEP.

So 4 full games after setting all these records as a true freshman, and with a 2-2 record in the current season, Jake loses the job.

It seems to me a bit difficult to argue with the decision the coaching staff made. I think it is dictated by either disliking Mendenhall and it being an opportunity to pound on him or believing Heaps is going to be a superstar at his next stop. Heaven knows the kid has the potential to blossom.

Also, recorded one of the 5 or 6 highest single game PERs in BYU history, which seems to give everyone around here a boner.

Also, BYU bowl record for completion %, TD passes as a true fresh.

And we pulled the plug on a knee-jerk reaction against Utah St and to win one more game on the season. It just seems short-sighted to me.

the family members I have related to the team are not crying one bit over this move. heaps had very little support of the team going into the season. he lost internally, he lost games. he lost. period.

Also I am super glad we are going to a fairly gimmicky offense that the college word figured out how to beat about 2-3 years ago...that is unless you have a guy like Cam Newton, La Michael James or Denard Robinson. Let me look at BYU's roster and get back to you on how I feel about that...

Also, all in games under a coordinator that hadn't called a single play in his entire life. Ugh.
