I really hope and think that Alisa's improvement should allow Riley to rush less. I think the biggest reason that the offense moved the ball better with Riley instead of Jake was because Riley provided a strong rushing component that BYU was missing this year. Next year I am hopeful that Michael Alisa fulfills that component much better than any BYU rb did this year.Originally posted by Moliere View PostHeaps shouldnt have quit. His quitting makes no sense given that he'll still sit out a year with a transfer and will likely face very stiff competition to get a starting job.
His transferring only means one thing, he lost the trust of the coaching staff and teammates. He obviously knew that even if he sat around for a year that it's likely the team might not embrace him fully. Transferring must have been his only real option.
I'm not a chicken little. BYU will be fine and I predict Nelson starts all games next year. I think hes learned to not take on LBers, similar to Beck, and hopefully he st arts sliding when he knows he doesn't need an extra yard or two.
However, given Riley's limited arm strength BYU needs a good tight end to step up who can consistently get open in the middle of the field from 8-15 yards.Do Your Damnedest In An Ostentatious Manner All The Time!

You're right. He's a quitter AND a moron.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostAll of you guys calling Jake a pussy and quitter make no sense. The easiest road back to becoming a starting QB for Jake was at BYU. He was guaranteed to redshirt next year and start for 2 years at BYU.
By transferring he is actually making things more difficult for himself. He is redshirting either way whether he stays or goes but now he has to learn a new offense and compete for the starting job after his redshirt season.
Clearly it is not competition he is worried about otherwise he would have stayed at BYU redshirted next year and taken the easy way back to becoming a starting QB.

I can think of two QBs with limited arm strength, napper, who had the same fight in them as Riley.Originally posted by Goatnapper'96 View PostI really hope and think that Alisa's improvement should allow Riley to rush less. Staying at BYU was definitely the easiest route. But like I said the other day, it was clear his situation was not going to be completely influenced strictly by looking at the future, but rather by what had happened in the past.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostAll of you guys calling Jake a pussy and quitter make no sense. That would be helpful, but I'm pretty sure both of his injuries occurred in passing situations.Originally posted by Moliere View PostI'm not a chicken little. Seriously. Can you actually make a post without some slided-backhanded comment.. It seems the Church nor BYU gives a shit about you so I suggest you "Move On".. We all wish you would...

I hope Alisa runs north-south more next year. Watching him try to bounce stuff outside is pretty, uh, entertaining.Originally posted by Goatnapper'96 View PostI really hope and think that Alisa's improvement should allow Riley to rush less. If we're pinning our hopes on Alisa though I think we're in trouble. We need Juice to be healthy and regain his late freshman season form, and maybe Hine, or the Williams kid to step up."Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

Did Heaps really do it for you? I can understand being bummed about no conference, shitty bowls, WAC schedule, etc., but after the Utah State game, in no way did I wake up thinking, "At least we have Jake Heaps."Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostToday is one of my lowest points as a BYU football fan. Riley is fine as a qb, just that BYU's passing game with him as the man is a little more limited than it is with Heaps. One area they can compensate is if a TE steps forward who can dominate in the middle of the field.Originally posted by Viking View PostI can think of two QBs with limited arm strength, napper, who had the same fight in them as Riley.
I am not convinced that Riley's arm strength is significantly less than Steve Sarkisian. Obviously, Riley's ability to run opens another component but if BYU is going to do anything special, such as win 10-11 games with that schedule, it will need a good tight end and a good running back.Do Your Damnedest In An Ostentatious Manner All The Time!

Jake is a pussy. He does not like to get hit and proved it against Ole Miss and cemented it against Texas where after getting blasted never recovered until getting benched.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostAll of you guys calling Jake a pussy and quitter make no sense. As for quitting, he quit. He is no longer on the team. The season is still on going. You are right that I believe his easiest path back to being a starter was to stay but I think he completely lost the respect of his teammates and coaches and felt like he needed to start fresh. It will be very interesting where he ends up. I think it will be a place that promises him the starting gig without having to earn it.
I think both Doman and Bronco told him that he would have to red shirt and then compete with Hill for the job and Jake didn't want to hear that.

Probably about as weird as me still being a BYU fan.Originally posted by Art Vandelay View PostWeird thing to complain about.
