  • BYU to Big East?.. So... then we actually have a chance of going to a BCS game, barring our typical Boise St. meltdowns (Payne's missed kick or Boise beating all living hell out of Crowtons misfits in Provo). I liked the idea of Big 12 Basketball... but Bronco would be fighting for a half a win right now in Big 12 Football.

The Big East feels like an Eastern version of the MWC to me with larger populations, a "should be" Ivy Leaguer (Rutgers), and more TV's... hence a BCS bid... Will they change the name to "Conference America", or continue to show the great levels of our "higher education" in the United States, where a Big 10 has 11 or 12 schools, a Big 12 has 9 or 10, and now an "East" Conference can think about adding San Diego State on the Pacific Coast. I'm just waiting for the PAC to invite UConn... God Bless the USA.

NO! Ganjacoug has no business here.

Also, don't tell brother #2 about CUF:

      • We better have a plan for basketball if we're entertaining this. I will be PISSED if we do another deal where basketball is an afterthought. And this time it could be more permanent.

What will Boise and AFA do with their BB programs? Leave in MWC? If so, interesting that the MWC allow that a year after they f***ed us over.

Going into a Big East BB conference without Syracuse, Pitt, West Virginia, and maybe UCONN and Louisville after another round of expansion would be a lot more doable than the Big East of last year. And if you're getting on a plan to go to an away game, I'm not sure it's that different to go four hours vs two hours. I would not be satisfied unless men's BB was included. We can leave other sports in the Big West or whatever that shitty conference is we're in now.

I'm also very serious about exploring a western men's BB only conference. I think it would be a great idea, and with the evolution of conferences, it seems a natural next step.

Boise and AFA will send their other sports tot he Big West.

I get what you're saying here, but I'm also starting to tire of this "We're too good for the WCC" bit. We're picked to take 2nd or 3rd this year. One team has done just fine (far better than we have) on a national stage in this conference, and that when it was in a far weaker condition. Another is a nice up-and-coming program. Most are predicting this to be stronger than the MWC this year (sure, that's partially due to our defection, but still...) We just struggled to beat a D2 team. Why are we too good for them again? Gym size?

When we consistently make the Sweet 16, then we can start complaining about our basketball conference.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

this is a slight turn for you. Do you think the byu big east rumor has legs now?

Because when I look at my book of tickets and see Portland, San Diego, San Francisco, Pepperdine, etc, it doesn't excite me much at all. And I doubt it does much for potential recruits, either.

                    No no no...
                    Ok...maybe tiny...flagellae?
Nah, I still think it's nonsense.
I'm just not as pissed about the WCC as everyone else seems to be.

Why not? As a fan, these are way better road trips.
And it doesn't seem to be hurting Gonzaga's recruiting. We just need good OOC games.

                      • I think we turned down the Big 12 for the Beast because Bronco wanted a conference Riley Nelson could succeed in.

I live a few miles from campus and go to all the home FB and BB games. I don't get out on a lot of road trips. So for me, the home schedule is important.

OK...I think everyone agrees that B12>anything other option. But you implied that leaving the MWC for the WCC/Independence was done without a thought to basketball, i.e. the relevant comparison is MWC to WCC. I think it's sixes. There are some dogs in the MWC, (sure, one fewer without Utah ), and BSU is not the least bit exciting for B-ball.

                            • Someone on utefans is saying the Spokane Review is reporting byu has been offered by the Big East. I went to the spokane review site and saw nothing there. Anyone have anything?

It's a no brainer that BYU can be in the BEast and may just take the offer and get this drama over with.
