  • Isn't it a near certainty that the Big East loses AQ status in the very near future? I don't understand why in the world BYU would even consider getting tied down in the Big East. It's a terrible idea on a whole host of levels. The only thing I can come up with is if they have completely abandoned the idea of ever joining the B12 and think this is their best/only option.

With the addition of BSU, BYU, and Houston, I would think there's enough quality to preserve AQ Status based on rank the last five years.

I think its likely to be harder for the BE to lose its AQ than it would have been for the MWC to gain AQ or for BYU to gain an AQ deal anything like ND.
Don't worry about people stealing your ideas. If your ideas are any good, you'll have to ram them down people's throats.

Furthermore, for the Big East to lose AQ status, one of the other non-AQ conferences would have to have a higher ranking. With the WAC, MWC, and C-USA being gutted of the best teams, that is highly unlikely.

The other scenario is that the powers that be decide to dismantle the BCS and rebuild it with fewer conferences in order to shut out the Big East. Anything is possible.

I'm also not as convinced that Dave Rose is as upset about the WCC as some here. Coaching is about holding onto a job until you get fired. Winning the WCC most years is a good way to not get fired.

Does the BCS mandate 6 conferences? In other words does it matter whether another non AQ has a higher ranking. My guess is that the Big East loses AQ and the other BCS conferences simply gain more slots, especially now that most of them have expanded to more teams.

That's what I heard on the radio this morning. But then again, the radio is like the internet so take that for what it is worth.

Big East update: BYU getting worked over to join , should work but tv deal makes it messy, UCF scandal does not impact their entry

Looks like a talk radio guy from Boise. Can't see BYU making many concessions in the way of broadcast rights to join the lowly B East. I certainly can't get excited about it. Boise would be the only team in our region, right? Not liking it.

I guess AF too, but still. I don't mind the idea of an east coast - west coast conference. But I can't get excited about Houston and SMU.

Why? Because they lost to TCU and UCLA? Oh wait, SMU and Houston won those games.

Because I have no attachment to them. I've never followed their programs. I no virtually nothing about them. I don't live in Texas.

Odd update. What does "getting worked over to join" mean?

Also, what of the UCF scandal? I must have missed it. What happened to UCF?

SMU is a bit interesting because of the 1980 Holiday Bowl, aka The Miracle Bowl. McMahon to Brown is about a billion times better than Beck to Harline.

Houston is a slightly interesting because didn't Klingler finish second to Detmer in the 1990 Heisman voting? Its was a Heisman rivalry of sorts.

Outside of that, not much exciting...

The solution is simple: You need to pick up and move to Texas.

I will have the board know that HottieCoug is the only one amongst us here in the fam that was born under the Texas sky. I envy her for that.

Then I think you know what you need to do.

Edit: Damn, I'm a hack. Must scroll down before posting. Great sense of humor Uncle Ted.
