A week ago? I would have been fully on board with the Big East deal (before this new BCS format was rumored), but I'm starting to see these increasing reports of the AQ BCS bowls going back to the older format. If BYU joins the Big East and the non-AQ thing is gone, what bowl does the Big East champion go to, the Orange Bowl? It seems like the SEC could get a 2nd team to a big bowl like the Orange Bowl instead of the new Big East.

It's still interesting what bowls BYU could end up with if the AQ thing was dropped if they had an 11-1 season under the possible new format.

I agree with this. The odds of a switcharoo are so high right now, I say just let it go.

Of course, I can see that BYU is doing a great job of burning everyone up right now.

Far be it from me to agree with DDD but if BYU continues to INCORRECTLY believe that it can compete for a BCS National Championship than getting to a BCS bowl game isn't important enough. If they INCORRECTLY think they can reach that goal easier as an Indy than they will stay put, which is obviously their position.

Yeah, for fans going to the Orange or Fiesta would be awesome but the stated goal in Delusionville is to win the whole enchilada.

(Notice the stated goal of the football program and the administration is not the same, as they, BOT, quite obviously couldn't care less about wins/losses/bowls etc)

BYU would not get any "good" bowl without the benefit conference affiliation.

You're probably right, but I'm not sure the Orange Bowl is chomping at the bit at the new Big East if they go to a new format either. They would rather have the 2nd SEC team I would assume.

It sounds like the powers that be are married to independence. Maybe they're just extremely precient and realize that the B12 and BE are going to blow up and the BCS system as a whole will look vastly different in a few years.

Unfortunately, they've only given credence to the rumors that BYU is an overbearing, unreasonable conference mate and have possibly screwed us for when the BCS does change.

Maybe I should just pull a K-dog and start cheering for my law school's team.

Prescience has nothing to do with it. As your post suggests, in the mouth of two or three witnesses all BYU foibles will be established.

The Big East is pissed off with BYU because the conference is in shambles and adding BYU to a newly minted Western Division with Boise St. would have been the cure to what ails them (at least until the next round of raids occur and AQ status disappears permanently.)

Unlike with the Big 12, BYU did have negotiating power with the Big East. The problem is that BYU saw all of the pitfalls of attaching itself to what the WVU AD referred to as a mostly sunk ship. BYU didn't want to sign up and get saddled with a horrible Comcast TV contract, a huge exit fee, an Eastern division suddenly gobbled up by ACC/SEC/Big 12, no access to BCS, and no way to get out except a 27 month waiting period.

The problem is that BYU let Big East get all excited before asking the conference to take a cold shower. The Big East was planning to score and at the end of the date found out they weren't even going to get to first base.

Not joining the Big East is OK, but leading them on certainly wasn't nice.

There was no offer from the Big 12. There NEVER was any offer from the Big 12. NONE.
