  • I haven't followed any of the BYU to [insert conference], for months. If BYU were to join the BEast, it would be for football only? I'm down with joining for FB, if I get the basketball along with it. If it is pigskin only, it is like upgrading from a Datsun to a Yugo.

I think they would just get a scheduling agreement with the Big East for basketball, like 2-4 games against Big East schools.

Playing 4 BE opponents (2 road, 2 home) on a rotating basis would be sweet.

Yay, so then they can send us Houston, SMU, Central Florida, and whatever other scrubby team is around.

Ah, yes...but Datsun ended up Nissan in the end. So, if we hold out long enough...

                  • I don't see the rush. Does anyone think the Big East won't want BYU three or four years from now? If BYU has the kind of season that would make them eligible under the Gang of Five rule, then it would likely be playoff eligible within the new structure. Why lock into a new conference at this point? Any additional "relevance" would be marginal and we'd have little to no flexibility to move in the future.

A used Nissan has the same quality as a Honda or Toyota, but at a fraction of the cost as it doesn't hold its value as well.

Before I commit to anything, I want to know details, like what is the car's service record, and what condition the tires are in.

                          • To be fair, I think the Big East is sending Temple & Memphis to play SDSU & Boise. I think the scheduling agreement is for actual Big East basketball schools, so that would not include SDSU, Boise, Navy, etc.

                            • What is wrong or (different from the current state of affairs) with this schedule?

The Red Division would consist of Louisville, South Florida, Connecticut, San Diego State, SMU, Navy and Memphis. The Blue Division: Cincinnati, Central Florida, Rutgers, Boise State, Houston, Temple and the 14th team.

Each team would play six league games within its division and two games against the other division, including one permanent cross-division rival game. Those annual cross-division matchups would be: Louisville-Cincinnati, USF-UCF, UConn-Rutgers, San Diego State-Boise State, SMU-Houston, Navy-Temple and Memphis versus the 14th team.

                              • I don't think there's anything wrong with it. I think folks want a real conference and are jealous of the stability and consistently good matchups Utah has. Most of these types of teams we could get to come play in independence.

I'd just as soon hope the B12 calls and stay indy than do this.

However, it's looking more and more like BYU might go this route.
