  • The contracts, as far as I know, are up for negotiation in 2014. That's why there is speculation about this at all.

My point is, they wouldn't do this next year or something. It would have to be negotiated in to the new contract, and the HB might have interest in a 9-3 BYU team.

Do I think this will happen? No. Could it though? Sure.
Will donate kidney for B12 membership.

    • From ESPN Insider:
The Big East Conference won't go quietly in its pursuit of BYU to become its 14th football member. If the Big East were to gain legitimate traction to add the Cougars, the first steps to the possible acquisition should begin next month.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

            • All I hear about is the 4 undefeated teams.

I expected the Big East to end up as second class citizens when Pitt and Syracuse go to the ACC, but it looks like it has happened already. Louisville at 9-0 is doing no better than Boise State did when they went undefeated in the WAC.

... even with that East coast media.

Big East now is included with an automatic BCS berth (if their champ is highest ranked of MAC, SunBelt, MWC, CUSA). BYU and ND do not have automatic berths unless they are ranked top 5.

What is this six bowl semifinal thing?

Someday we will have four Elite 8 games played around Christmas, maybe stretch from Dec 24-26.

Then New Year's Day will be two Final 4 games.

That will be awesome when it happens. That will change Christmas traditions as much as the new mission announcement changes LDS mission tradition.

So, no access to a BCS game unless we have that special year that gets us in to the top 4 over a BCS level champ, and/or their second place team that is very special as well.

                    • What is all of this talk? I thought there was no longer any BCS. Only the top four teams get into the playoff. Am I wrong?

Full Disclosure - I'm at work and haven't read the link.

Yep, as we are currently affiliated.

If we joined the BE, we are in a second tier whose highest rated champion gets the auto-bid. (Last 8 of 9 years has been a BE team.)

With option #1, we need a top 5 and likely undefeated season. In option #2 we could be ranked 20 and have a loss or even two.

                        • BE sounds better. It's not like being there would stop us from going to another league. You still have a better chance for a good game against teams like Cincy, Louisville, Boise, and SDSU. You can still get some good games OOC against the teams we've been getting games with. It's not like Wisconsin, Texas, and Nebraska won't be willing to do a 2/1 or 1/0 with us if we're in the BE. Plus, we'll get a whole new group of dreg teams to play like Temple, Navy, and Rutgers.

I just wonder what we'll do when Louisville bails to the B12.

The easiest path lies in the MW CUSA Sun belt, etc. BYU should join one of those and go every year.

If we joined back up with the MWC, Boise and SDSU would just abandon their current agreement, I'd think.
