I'm with you on not wanting to go the BE route, but we disagree on this point. Smarter as evidenced by what? The failure to read the fine print of the contract with the mtn. network? The knee-jerk move to independence after Utah was invited to the PAC? The turning away from the Big XII's initial interest in Air Force and BYU as expansion candidates? I don't know; they haven't exactly impressed with their decision-making skills.

Let me rephrase. BYU had better be smarter than that.
The "MWC that Almost Was" was a much better conference than the BE
Utah, TCU, BYU, and Boise top tier with a second tier of SDSU, Nevada, AFA, is a better conference than the current Big East.
Unfortunately that ship has sailed and Utah went and screwed it all up.
Yeah, cuz TCU would have passed on the BIG12 when it came calling to stay in the prestigious MWC at get 1/20th of the revenue had Utah just stayed true to the MWC and it's whopping $1 million payout per school instead of leaving for the PAC12.
Boise could have been convinced to stay.
You would have been looking at a MWC with BYU, Utah, Boise and no TCU.
No bueno. Maybe more bueno for BYU and Boise, but certainly mucho less bueno for Utah and TCU would have been laughing at all of us from the Big12.

This is assuming the B12 would have taken TCU over offering a spot to Utah had Utah not joined the P12. Of course, under the scenario you are discussing, Utah should have turned down both the P10 and the B12 for the opportunity to continue playing games in Laramie and Albuquerque.

I'm 99.34% certain that thread doesn't exist on this site, either.
I hope not, and I was just kind of chiming in with Portland in response to the idea that Utah should have turned down the opportunity to move on to much greener pastures in order to stay in the mythical MWC described herein.
