I was never counting on Benji or Po'u to make a contribution this season. Depth was always going to be an issue, although the starting 5 is pretty good IMO."I don't know the origin of said bitch booming."-Art Vandelay

Do you know if there's any hope they'll make it - either one? The starting 5 are excellent, for sure.Originally posted by BoylenOver View PostI was never counting on Benji or Po'u to make a contribution this season. Depth was always going to be an issue, although the starting 5 is pretty good IMO.

I've seen a lot of fans express hope, but my humble opinion is they'll join the likes of Dudley LaPorte and Lavelle Peterson as urban myths that are never seen on campus.Originally posted by OrangeUte View PostDo you know if there's any hope they'll make it - either one? Well, I shouldn't say that. Palelei still has eligibility, I think, whereas Kemoeatu is out of options."I don't know the origin of said bitch booming."-Art Vandelay

I could have sworn kemoeatu was there in the spring."Be a philosopher. A man can compromise to gain a point. It has become apparent that a man can, within limits, follow his inclinations within the arms of the Church if he does so discreetly." - The Walking Drum

I heard through the grapevine today that Matt Asiata is in camp with the Minnesota Vikings, Eddie Wide is in camp with the Forty Niners, and Shaky is in camp with the Packers."We should remember that one man is much the same as another, and that he is best who is trained in the severest school."

Utah opened fall camp today. From the sounds of it, Jordan Wynn looked good, the running backs looked good, and Brian Blechen probably shouldn't swallow any more bees."I don't know the origin of said bitch booming."-Art Vandelay

It's kind of strange, in a refreshing sort of way, hearing Chow compare Wynn to Detmer. A nice change from having Urban - who can't even say BYU.
I'm still just trying to wrap my mind around a Utah coach comparing a Utah player to a past BYU player. It just seems a little twighlight-zone-ish to me.

I'm floored. I can't fathom Chow comparing a current player that he coaches to a former player that he coached!Originally posted by Eddie View PostIt's kind of strange, in a refreshing sort of way, hearing Chow compare Wynn to Detmer. A nice change from having Urban - who can't even say BYU.

I don't think Norm got the memo about how all Utah coaches behave in the manner BYU fans expect them to behave.Originally posted by Portland Ute View PostI'm floored. I can't fathom Chow comparing a current player that he coaches to a former player that he coached!

So tell me. A few years back, when Urban was coaching at the U...
How well do you think it would've gone for someone like KW to compare Utah players to BYU players?
Somehow I don't think it would've gone over well.
I'm just saying it's weird. Maybe refreshing was the wrong term to use.
I know that there are special circumstances that make it a little more normal. But it isn't every day that you have coaches from one school compare their player to a past player from a rival school.
But I suppose that was better than Chow saying "Hell, I don't know. Kid is a skinny runt. I'm not sure WHO to compare him to. I suppose Detmer wasn't all that big. Maybe I should compare him to Detmer."

Norm was just at BYU much too long. He hasn't been at Utah long enough to lose his civility yet. Give him time, he'll get back to his roots.Originally posted by LA Ute View PostI don't think Norm got the memo about how all Utah coaches behave in the manner BYU fans expect them to behave.

(Yea. I just referenced Norm Chow and civility in the same sentence...)
I like the idea of the coaches being respectful of each other. I think the relationship that Mac and Lavell had was a positive and took an edge of some of the bitter feelings. When the coaches get to acting as bad as the fans, it seems like we are headed in the wrong direction to maintain some peace at the games.
