Semantics? No. Rules. Just because the winner is ineligible doesn't mean they are not the winner.

There is no reason to equate ineligibility with not winning.

The PAC12 South will have a representative in the championship game. I hope that representative is Utah.

8-4 and an appearance in the Championship game is a fine first season. No reason to claim something that isn't true to add to it.

Look at the PAC12 South standings and tell me who won the division. Post-season bans don't change the outcome of the regular season.

Will you be traveling to Eugene? I am 50/50 whether I can swing that trip or not.

Yes, you are. Utah is not winning the South this year, regardless of what UClA and ASU do.

Switching conferences is tough. It's like walking into a room full of strangers who all know each other. They have to learn one new name, while you have to learn nine all at once. I'm impressed with the Utes season this year. I'd put the odds at 10-1 that they beat out all reasonable expectations. Sure some homers thought they'd go to the Rose Bowl, and I'm one of those homers who thought they stood as good a chance as anyone to win the South, but almost nobody paid to talk about football picked them for the Holiday Bowl or better. Now, that's the lowest they are projected to go.

Next year will be even better, but I'm very happy with the Utes this season, so far.

Ah, I see. Well, perhaps you've got a point. NCAA sanctions should matter, in my opinion, but you're right about what is sanctioned and what isn't.

As for Eugene, I won't be going. If the Utes go to the Alamo or Sun Bowl, I definitely will. Rose? Of course! Not sure about the Holiday Bowl.

If they get there I am not hanging a banner. In reality though since USC was ineligible they can't be the division winner. Just like games, heisman trophies and championships forfeited. They did actually play the games they just dont go on record as winning it. But hey you have your opinion and that's cool. To me its not a big deal. As for me going to the game I live in Michigan and one weeks worth of lead up time is to tough to swing. Maybe if I was a rich Dentist or somethign . If they go to the Rose bowl (albeith slight chance and all) I wil be there for sure.

USC's wins from the 2011 regular season aren't vacated. They won the regular season. They are ineligible to appear in the post-season. Two separate matters.

As for being a rich dentist, this rich dentist is looking at driving the 12 hours. We looked at flights a few nights ago and there are only something like 60 seats flying available from SLC to Eugene on Thursday and Friday. Fewer returning. Not sure how Portland looks, but I'm sure it's not significant. I'd bet there are fewer than 400 seats available to get from SLC to Oregon that weekend.

Unless you fly privately or drive, it's going to be tough to get to Oregon.

I was watching The Experts on ESPNU yesterday and the topic of winning the Pac-12 South came up. Not one person on the panel made the same argument as you that ASU, UCLA or Utah could not actually win the division.
