I don't know how on God's green earth CJF is calling that ball out. Maybe--maybe--there wasn't enough to call it in, but man, it sure looked in to me. I'd be calling us lucky to keep the ball if roles were reversed.
And I really wonder if we kept the fumble later as a makeup call.At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

Yeah, that's why I said freshman mistake. I think a senior probably senses that guy there and doesn't throw it. Probably.Originally posted by thesaint258 View PostThat back did a good job of coming back to intercept that ball. If he kept going with his man, we would've had the touchdown.
Great play by the backer, so I'm not all that bugged. At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

They just said on the call in show that the explanation from the ref was that it was a fumble, and BYU did recover, but the running back reached over and touched the ball while he was out of bounds.Originally posted by ERCougar View Post

How is a guy sitting out of bounds able to regain possession of a football?Originally posted by thesaint258 View PostThey just said on the call in show that the explanation from the ref was that it was a fumble, and BYU did recover, but the running back reached over and touched the ball while he was out of bounds. At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

Very good win for BYU. With a two-TD lead, BYU had margin for error while being able to maintain its confidence.
If I'm an SDSU fan, this is a disappointing loss. It was a chance to take a step forward as a program and almost assure a bowl win. Looking at the stats, Rocky Long has to be beside himself that BYU was able to control the LOS so easily with a largely one-dimensional offensive attack.

That was a totally different team out there from the warmups to the postgame celebration. Heaps was O.K. but missing the wide open guy in the end zone on the int was pretty bad. I'm glad that people showed up for this game. I was afraid they'd be playing in fromt of 45,000 (not that there's anything wrong with that ute fans). Right now it would be hard to argue that firing Hill wasn't a good move.

Honestly, that pick was more on Holt than Heaps. Holt ran a terrible route and put his guy in position to make a play. If Holt cut it short and sharp, the intented receiver is wide open and it is a touchdown. Great play by the DB on that throw also.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostI thought he was great but I wasn't pleased with the end zone INT. I didnt like that pass.
The only throw I was disappointed with was the throw to Jacobsen that was barely tipped last second in the endzone. If he puts that ball in the corner it is 6 points. Jacobsen had to wait for it and it gave the DB just enough time to disrupt the play.A man who views the world the same at fifty as he did at twenty has wasted thirty years of his life. - Mohammad Ali

Really? There is no clear shot of the ball staying in bounds. And there is a clear shot of the running back touching the ball while he is clearly out of bounds. The kills the play. I'm not arguing that it was a good call, I think it was the right call. What I am saying is that it was a heck of a lot more questionable then the BYU fumble. That was about as clear cut as anything. I just can't come up with a reason other than make up call that would have allowed BYU to keep the ball there. It was pretty darn obvious.Originally posted by ERCougar View Post

And to be clear, I'm not mad about it. I'm glad BYU got a few breaks. I want BYU to win. My whole point was if I was an Aztec player, coach or fan I'd be livid. That no fumble fumble and the PI had a huge impact on the game.Last edited by CJF; 10-09-2010, 08:42 PM.A man who views the world the same at fifty as he did at twenty has wasted thirty years of his life. - Mohammad Ali

I'm guessing this is the reasoning for it from the rulebook:Originally posted by ERCougar View PostHow is a guy sitting out of bounds able to regain possession of a football?
I had always thought that possession needed to be established for that to be the case, but I guess that interpretation makes sense.Section 4-2 Ball Out of Bounds
ARTICLE 3. a. A ball not in player possession...is out of bounds when it touches the ground, a player, a game official or anything else that is on or outside a boundary line.
