It does make me wonder a little about the Texas independence idea...
You know, it wouldn't surprise me. One reason for conference affiliation, at least as far as football was concerned, was access to a premier bowl game and the money associated with that bowl. In fact, the NCAA seems to have yielded any oversight over Div I football to what the major bowls (and now the BCS) want to do. Conference-specific TV contracts have added to that revenue.
If Texas (or any other team) feels like they can maximize their revenue through control of their own TV content and distribution, then making a run at independance might work financially. If you're good enough to be in the national championship hunt at the end of the season, that's icing on the cake.
"You interns are like swallows. You shit all over my patients for six weeks and then fly off."
"Don't be sorry, it's not your fault. It's my fault for overestimating your competence."

The other possibility is that things are solidifying and they can plan for the future, whatever that may be. It is not like they are overloading teams in any given year:
Horns schedules: BYU, UCLA in 2011; Ole Miss in 12; Ole Miss, BYU in 13; BYU in 14; NDame, Cal in 15&16; USC 17&18
Huh. From my own backyard, and I've never even seen the guy.

He's been doing BYU games off and on a long time. Is he with the MTN now? I thought he was well known in Vegas area. I thought he did Vegas sports news for TV.

He's actually a morning anchor for the Vegas CBS affiliate. He did Vegas sports for that same station for a long time. The problem is I don't watch local news or sports shows unless I'm at the gym and I can't avoid it without falling off the treadmill. Also, I don't go to the gym.

Also, turns out McCann is now on twitter. Seems like a good guy to follow, given his connection to TrueBlue. Here are some of his recent tweets:
Walking to the studio for a busy Tuesday morning. Hope you enjoy the show!
Just about time to kickoff a brand new week! Hope you had a great weekend! See you in 35 minutes on Channel 8!
Time to go to work! Enjoy the show and have a great morning!

Make up is on, stories are previewed, Cool at School is done, ready for showtime! Hope you watch us this morning on Channel 8!
I wonder what he's going to tweet next.

I think I know what channel, I just can't ever remember if he's on the morning, afternoon or evening news. I think its the lunch bunch, though.

I'm not sure you're a WFB yet, but keep trying. Wuap achieved both distinctions with a single post.
Actually, it took me two.
"Wuap's "problem" is that he is smart & principled & committed to a moral course of action. His actions are supposed to reflect his ethical code.
The rest of us rarely bother to think about our actions." --Solon

I understand facebook is freighted mostly with this kind of self-absorbed drivel.
It's strange that people take the time to write such banalities, and even stranger that there's apparently an audience for such stuff. If people wish to subscribe to hourly reports concerning my dining habits, daydreams and success (or lack thereof) in the bathroom, maybe I'll start tweeting, although it occurs to me that my kids became a captive audience for such reportage long before the advent of Twitter.
