True. But that's only from a global
company view, which is not applicable here.

    • I still don't understand why they are afraid of a lawsuit. Why would they be liable for Baylor sucking? As long as A&M follows the Big 12 bylaws for exit, how can they lose? Are we saying all the MWC teams should be suing BYU, Utah, and TCU right now?

I thought I heard that it was the SEC that would be sued - for interfering.

Somehow the belief is that the SEC approached aTm and convinced them to head for the SEC. And I suppose following that logic, you would have to believe that the aTm was happy with the status quo and had no intention to ever leave the Big 12 until the SEC came along and wooed them.

That didn't really happen. Come on now.
That was supposedly one of the terms BYU asked for a couple weeks ago. They wanted assurances that UT wasn't going to sign them and then bail. I'm thinking it was from Monson's radio show one of the days last week where he talked about stuff he'd been hearing about the impediments to BYU to Big 12.

Dude... happens more often than you could imagine. I had a business trip in New York where everybody kept trying to speak Spanish with me. The way I see it, we're not just introducing Mormons back to the Midwest (considering they already kicked'em out once), but also showing off that glorious 0.03% of the american population that is Polynesian... and how what BYU looses in the Black player, they make up for in the Brown.

I think it has something to do with timing and negotiating in good faith. Colorado and Nebraska left the Big 12 under the bylaws while an existing TV contract was in place. They negotiated the exit fees and moved on. However, the Big 12 then renegotiated the FoxSports contract with the understanding that the remaining 10 members would be place - my understanding is that all 10 institutions agreed to it, not just the Big 12 conference. And if during that contract renegotiation Texas A&M was talking with the SEC, then Texas A&M may not have signed the new contract in good faith.

There may be more Polys in the midwest then you might think. Back in the mid 1980s during that glorious era when the LDS church supported regional softball tournments, we played an all-poly team (well, 75% Poly) from Kansas City in the regional finals. Since they were a local team and we traveled 3+ hours, they had all their fans with them as well. We joked, "Didn't know the church has Polynesian wards in KC". They were very hospitable (some of our team stayed with a host Poly family) and very good softball players.

"The Big Ten just concluded a call with representatives from the University of Oklahoma Board of Regents, initiated by Oklahoma.

The call confirmed that the Big Ten would NOT extend an invitation to Oklahoma to join the conference."

A lot of Poly's that joined the church decided to skip Utah and go straight to Zion... and that's the honest truth. Forgot about that though, while I was serving in Missouri, I heard about a Samoan stake in KC. So... we should be covered with a group of brownie fans in the area, and there's a ton in Texas... c'mon BIG 12, I wanna go see my Tongans with southern accents.

Longhorn Network Adds Five UTSA Football Games to Slate Starting Sept. 10

Starting this Saturday, Sept. 10 at 1 p.m. CT, Longhorn Network viewers will see additional college football games this season as the network has secured exclusive rights to televise five home football games of the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), a Division I FCS independent program. Added to the previously announced Kansas at Texas Big 12 matchup scheduled for October 29, the agreement will bring to seven the total number of college football matchups for the channel in 2011.

The Roadrunners are coming off their inaugural game and head coach Larry Coker’s debut with a 31-3 win against Northeastern State to take on the McMurry War Hawks at the Alamodome on Saturday. Andrew Monaco and Ahmad Brooks will call the action in the booth. [...]

I want the Big 12 to work out. But that's gotta be a shot to the pride of the Sooners. This is the Big 10... league of the consistent underachievers right?

                            • Here you go PolyCougar... This was posted on the OB board by someone that claims to have a source:

Opposing counsel in one of my cases is a Baylor alum with an ear to the administration. We just completed a conference call where he told me that word from his side was that the parties are close to resolution. A&M gets out with the SEC receiving satisfactory assurance that it won't get sued. OU/OSU agree to stay, and BYU joins as the 10th member. The conference will share revenue equally, except that each school can have its own network and retain whatever revenue generated thereby. There have been talks between Baylor and others with the Big East, but that is a fall-back scenario at this point.

FWIW: He also said that there is talk that, if the SEC takes WV as its 14th team, the B12 would look into expanding with others schools fleeing the Big East. This may include ND, which would join in ALL sports since it could have its own network.
Edit: Apparently this is being confirmed over at the Shaggy Bevo. In addition, ESPN may be helping OU out with starting their own network like they did with UT.

the leagues don't want to be responsible for the undoing of another BCS league. mid-majors, sure, but not the big boys.
