One of the grandest benefits of the enlightenment was the realization that our moral sense must be based on the welfare of living individuals, not on their immortal souls. Honest and passionate folks can strongly disagree regarding spiritual matters, so it's imperative that we not allow such considerations to infringe on the real happiness of real people.

If it stays the way it is the one downside is for those of us who attend BYU home football games but overall it is still an improvement to where BYU was.

I think they knew it was difficult going in and there was the hype machine purposely fanned and now reality is setting in. I am skeptical that Holmoe et all did not know that this was the likely endstate of home scheduling.

If/when the Big-12 comes calling BYU can still do the H-A-N games. BYU will have an 8 game conference schedule and 4 OOC games. One game each year will be a H-A-N game, one can be the U game, one can be a Home and Home series and the other will be Utah State or a FCS or some gimee. That gives at least one good home OOC game every year to go with 2 good home conference games. BYU will then have one real crappy home game and two pretty decent ones. Even you would be happy with that!
Yes, even '71 would have to admit that a home schedule of Northern Arizona, Utah, Texas, Baylor, KSU, & Texas Tech would be pretty sweet. I just hope his eyesight doesn't go first.

Why do you fear this? There is no precedence in previous BYU decisions. It defies common sense and clearly the current BYU admin seems intent on improving BYU sports. Why on earth are people worried that an impediment to BYU joining the Big-12 would be BYU saying "no thanks mate!"

I can understand thinking the Big 12 might not invite due to sunday play and general jealousy of our total awesomeness and undefeated record against Texas and the other program that thinks itself sexy, but I am trying to understand why anyone could logically think BYU would say no.

        • Looks like the Arizona schools are starting to get some love as B12 expansion targets. B12, going on the offensive against the PAC. This is all out war, with Notre Dame and BYU as the ultimate victor's spoils!

I really don't think Kyle knows much more than any informed fan as to what will happen with conference alignment in the future.

I really don't get this line of thinking. Rose has many reasons to want to stay in Provo. And Mark Few has been happy staying in the WCC when he could have gone to several big conference programs.

But this is probably all moot as I don't think BYU would turn down a good invite.

39 percent of idiot fans want the Arizona schools. That means nothing.

The AZ schools will trade the Pac for the B12 when hell freezes over (I was going to say when Tempe freezes over; does it ever freeze there?).

There are good reasons whey Colorado wanted to be in the Pac instead of the B12. They apply to the AZ schools. So would TX rather be in the Pac if it didn't have so many commitments and dependents tied to the B12.

I happen to believe that the move for BYU from the MWC to the WCC is not good for the hoops program. I have stated that I think BYU is a unique institution and inherint with that uniqueness are attributes of its basketball program where I think such a move down can be overcome. BYU's bases of strenth are impacted less by conference affiliation than other programs, but they can still be impacted. Hence, I still happen to believe that Rose would rather have stayed in the MWC. I also think Rose has heard the chatter about BYU to the Big 12 and IMO likely advocated that such a move would be beneficial for his hoops program. I think if he came away from such interactions thinking that the decision makers valued their control and ability to spread the good word through BYUTV, he would have looked a little harder at bolting after last year. I realize that he is looking more and more content to coach his career at BYU, but I think the valuing of control at the expense of competitiveness opportunities would have driven Rose away.
