The real reason could be that FSU doesn't match up well against GT's option offense and FSU doesn't want to play GT again. This is all hypothetical of course.
And maybe the real reason tOSU had a bigger point spread in its championship game playing their 3rd string QB against a #17 team than FSU did it is last eight games collectively with its Heisman trophy winning QB was that Wisconsin just rolled over for them so they could bring in more money for the conference. This is all hypothetical of course.

Since this is all about the playoff and pleasing the playoff committee, I assume they take the playoff committee's two highest ranked ACC teams. There seems to have been a lot of outcry over the rankings released by the playoff committee in previous weeks meaning nothing to the final rankings (mainly from TCU fans who don't get the drop from 3 to 6 despite winning by 50+ points). I wonder if they will continue releasing weekly rankings.

Use the playoff rankings/a tiebreaker system in the event the records are the same.

I would wonder where on the priority list the so called fan base is with BYU. Many have argued Bronco doesn't need to care what the fan base thinks and Bronco more than once has displayed his feelings concerning the fan base. I wouldn't doubt those above him including the BOT do not have the fan base at the top of their priority list.

Of course I am speaking of the "large fan base". The core fan base will be with them no matter what and no melt down. Whatever is done is good and of course will work out great down the road.

I think BYU decision makers can live quite nicely with 50,000 at games and the casual fan tuning into games or doing the DVR thing and watching later.

So its like a mini-BCS system in each conference. That would be funny.

Don't most leagues employee some sort of tiebreaker system? Is it funny when the NFL or NBA do it?

Who decides the top two teams? Some years it may be clear cut; others not so much. These decisions are not made in a vacuum. Maybe the ACC could pull it off with little controversy with no schools holding more influence than others. I'm not very familiar with the ACC. I'm more familiar with the Big 12 and allowing a conference (meaning the commissioner or a committee) to select who plays in a CCG would be controversial at best, corrupt at worst.

Probably. It just seemed funny to me in this instance is all.

If Dallas beats Philly next week and they finish with the same record, who wins the NFC East?

Do NFL teams get to decide who they play outside of their division?

Doesn't matter. The tiebreaker rules still apply. Taking a page from the NFL's rules,

                            1. Head to head - in most years they will have played so it will be easy
                            2. if they haven't played(which would be the same as the NFL when they split), best won/loss percentage in common games
                            3. strength of victory
                            4. strength of schedule
                            5. Margin of victory
                            ...

                            Why wouldn't that work?

Agreed. That worked really well for Baylor and TCU!
