  • 5 reasons why BYU is a good fit!

    http://www.ksl.com/?nid=272&sid=32660243

The writing in this one is phenom.

While the conference got cute and tried to announce Baylor and TCU as co-conference champions (despite Baylor beating TCU) to better bolster their odds of getting an invite to the playoffs, the ploy did not have the desired effect on the selection committee.

      • First shoe drops? B12 officials recently met with Cinci administrators

        http://www.sportingnews.com/ncaa-bas...ti-memphis-byu

Big 12 officials recently met with administrators from the University of Cincinnati, a source close to the university told Sporting News. That is not an indication membership will be offered to the Bearcats in the immediate future — only that they would be a candidate were such an expansion to be undertaken.
        sounds familiar....

Really? That seems like a lot cash to continually front to host the championship game. That's quite an incentive.

Every person I spoke to today that’s from Big 12 or Big 12 school: league is not expanding

Sorry, UConn and Cincinnati. You, too, Central Florida and BYU. It doesn’t appear Sunday’s disappointment of seeing Baylor and TCU left without dance cards to the College Football Playoff will send the Big 12 knocking at your door.
                    Not yet, anyway.
“Adding two schools for the purpose of getting to 12 (to have a league championship game) would be among the poorest reasons to do it,” Bowlsby told USA Today.

                    • It would be silly to have a knee-jerk reaction to this and quickly invite schools. No need. They can think about it for months and jump on over the summer if they decide to. Anyone but BYU is going to have to go through whatever it takes to leave their current conference - so it isn't like this is a solution that will happen for next year's season.

I figure they'll want until the next NCAA meeting occurs, where they are proposing that the rule requiring 12 teams for a championship game be changed, before doing anything. Why would they invite new teams if the NCAA allows them to do what they want with what they've got?

The ACC is pushing for deregulation to allow the conference to determine who plays in the CCG. Right now the NCAA mandates that the CCG is between the divisional winners. The ACC wants to be able to pit their two best teams in the conference regardless of division in the CCG. The ACC views the CCG as a potential play in game to give their best two teams an SOS boost and a big win at the end of the year. So for example, with this waiver last year they could have put FSU and Clemson in the CCG instead of FSU and Duke.

The Big 12 is calling their waiver deregulation too, but they obviously want the CCG deregulated completely to allow them to stay at 10 teams and have a CCG.

Again, I cannot see anyway in which the NCAA allows the Big 12's waiver to be accepted. The other conferences wouldn't allow it. Remember, the ACC applied for a waiver before the 2004 season to hold a CCG with just 11 members and was denied by the NCAA. It wasn't until BC joined the following year they were allowed to hold a CCG. I don't think they'd reverse course when they have already set a precedent. I can see the ACC possibly being granted their waiver.
I took this argument against a friend last night and he sent me this article discussing the ACC's waiver that was submitted last spring.

                        http://www.cbssports.com/collegefoot...ason-structure

This article sure makes it seem like the waiver would give the Big-12 the ability to have a championship game with only 10 teams. He also seems to think that the PAC-12 is in favor of this waiver for the same reasons the ACC are.

                        • Hate to be a Debbie Downer, but if Fedex is throwing that kind of cash, and with Tennessee football down and Memphis as a potential giant, they're a no brainer over BYU.

Cheer up. I don't think Fedex will really be throwing that kind of cash.

And why would Memphis completely subsidize the inclusion of Cincinnati as well?
