Even less room when Stanford is included. Notre Dame will probably have to drop a couple of these teams but it won't be USC or Navy.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostThe ACC TV deal will also be renegotiated now that ND will be featured regularly every year.
One thing that is concerning is the existing schedule for BYU and ND. 5 ACC teams, SC, Navy, Michigan, Michigan State, and Purdue every year doesn't leave a lot of room.“Not the victory but the action. Not the goal but the game. In the deed the glory.”

Or when academics is factored in and Notre Dame definitely factors it in. Losing Texas A&M, Colorado, Nebraska, and Missouri hurt the Big 12 academically.Originally posted by Uncle Ted View PostNot really that surprising if you consider where the ND fans are.
Still, Notre Dame is a better fit in the Big Ten even when one considers where its fans are located. The Big Ten is also at least as good a fit as the ACC when academics are considered. But Jim Delany never offered the Irish a spot in the Big Ten without including football. It was all-in or all-out and ND was all too happy to stay out despite being a good fit in the Big Ten.
This development does bode well for BYU and the Big 12. But I'm not too sure BYU wants in the Big 12 - think byu71 is right on target.
There was a time when I really wanted BYU in the Big 12 and looked forward to BYU playing Nebraska and Texas A&M in conference games. Now, I don't care. Not sure what would be better for BYU sports; becomming another Baylor in the Big 12 and compiling 7-5 seasons or staying independent and going 10-2 and being on the outside looking in.“Not the victory but the action. Not the goal but the game. In the deed the glory.”

Old Big 12:
Texas - 46
Texas A&M - 65
Baylor - 77
Colorado - 97
Missouri - 97
Iowa St. - 101
Nebraska - 101
Oklahoma - 101
Kansas - 106
Kansas St. - 139
Oklahoma St. - 139
Texas Tech - 165
In short, Nebraska was in the top half of the "old" Big 12 academically and ranked with Iowa St. and Oklahoma and not too far below Colorado and Missouri. When Texas A&M, Colorado, Nebraska, and Missouri left the Big 12, the conference lost half of the top 8 ranked schools (per US News) and four of seven AAU members at the time.
Nebraska is not the "Harvard of the Midwest" but they are a decent school academically. The Big Ten would not have accepted them otherwise.“Not the victory but the action. Not the goal but the game. In the deed the glory.”

I don't dispute where Nebraska was ranked within the B12, a conference almost entirely bereft of academic reputation.
Looking at how Nebraska stacks up in the B1G makes it pretty clear that academics didn't factor into that decision. Nebraska ranks dead last in the conference. It was not added for its academics, it was added in spite of its academics.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

It's clear that the expansion choices of the past few years have not had an ounce of academic consideration. The notable exception is the PAC 12 whose decision was primarily an academic one in choosing the prestigious research institutions Utah and Colorado.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostLooking at how Nebraska stacks up in the B1G makes it pretty clear that academics didn't factor into that decision. BYU will not be invited anytime. The big 12 will go east if they go at all. BYU is too far away and poses too many issues. We are independent and will be for a long time."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf
