I wonder if it has more to do with the big letdown with the Big 12 and Utah to the PAC 12. Would we be more excited if we had never heard any B12 rumors?
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

Key sentence that all pro-BigEast BYU fans should be aware of:

But take Louisville and Connecticut out, and, according to the Big East source, "the whole thing implodes. Then the basketball schools will be reactive, rather than proactive."

Whatever happens with the Big12 and/or ACC expanding, it'll come at the expense of the BigEast. The BigEast looks totally unstable, despite public assurances.

Time to form the Western conference.

That and we have 2011 in our memory. We can only see the second half of last season where we didn't play interesting games. If we play meaningful games, all will be well.

I don't recall ever seeing anyone claim that independence would be better long term than the B12.

You would have to believe that the people charged with running a major university have cognitive skills that are at least equal to or greater than random internet message board posters, particularly when it comes to evaluating the sports program of that university.

Based on that assumption, you have to believe that if there was a reasonable way to get into the B12, we would be in it already, or, if a reasonable way to get invited becomes available, the BYU administration will pursue it.

Then again, there are those people who you find on the interwebs who believe we were offered a spot in the B12, but also believe TH/Samuelson or the BOT have zero capacity to evaluate things rationally and turned the B12 down.
PW implied that he didn't think our fan base could handle struggling in the Big 12. I have seen many others express this viewpoint. Yes most people disagree.

Kinda makes you question the value of a BYU education.

I wouldn't be, but then again I was one of the few that was let down when I heard we were going independent.

This fan wouldn't be real happy with it. But I'm not real happy with our current situation either.

So I'd take playing in the B12, where at least you have the occasional big upset and the occasional special season.

I was sceptical too. I thought that going Indy was sensible IF we got a real conference invite in a few years or IF conferences imploded. This was all on the assumption that our Indy schedules would be decent. So, three strikes.

Louisville athletic director Tom Jurich wants out of the Big East, and has expressed that desire to the conference’s board of directors, sources close to the situation told ESPN.com’s Andy Katz.

Jurich, sources said, wants to be transparent and with that in mind, told the board that the Cardinals want to be in either the Big 12 or the ACC. Connecticut has said that it wants to remain in the Big East, but privately, sources told ESPN.com, UConn would like to join the ACC along with Notre Dame.

It’s the rumor that won’t go away. Florida State athletic director Randy Spetman shot down once-again fresh speculation that the Seminoles are interested in leaving the ACC for the Big 12.

In an exclusive interview with the Orlando Sentinel, Spetman said that FSU is “committed to the ACC.”

“We’re in the ACC,” he told the Sentinel. “We’re committed to the ACC. That’s where our president and the board of trustees has committed to, so we’re great partners in the ACC.”

Spetman said that he is not negotiating with the Big 12 and hasn’t, contrary to reports, been in Texas all week.

“My wife was wondering how I was getting back and forth every day,” Spetman told the paper.

Texas athletic director DeLoss Dodds spoke to The Dallas Morning News about Big 12 expansion.

"I don't think the Florida State-Clemson thing has any basis," Dodds said.

This is clearly some clever misdirection. FSU will be in the Big 12 by June, obviously...

FSU had a chance to join in the SEC back in 1990 and opted for the ACC instead.

I think FSU likes being in the ACC. What does the Big 12 offer FSU other than increased travel? And FSU well knows it will have to deal with Longhorn, Inc. in the Big 12. There's a reason why the only teams to join the Big 12 have come from the Big East. No program is going to leave the PAC-12, SEC, Big Ten, or ACC to join the Big 12.
