To me this gives all the more reason for Clemson and FSU to "follow the money".

Ditto, I think the TV stuff is smoke. It's nice extra money, but considering what the league payout is, I guarantee that kind of cash won't be matched with BYUtv's money it pulls in... unless T. Boone Pickens joins the church and starts rootin and tootin the Cougarblue.

A basketball scheduling agreement is also possible. Previous difficulties over TV arrangements can potentially be worked out.
To make this move would be the perfect storm of desperation and stupidity. I expect to hear BYU agrees to do it within the next month.

            This part is interesting...

And multiple sources listed Louisville as the most likely Big 12 possibility, given the wobbly Big East and the Cardinals' runner-up status to West Virginia in the most recent expansion sweepstakes. That would put the Big 12 at 11 teams and in a holding pattern.

The scenario would then be to see how Notre Dame reacts to having its non-football sports in the reworked Big East. The Big 12 could be a landing spot for the other Irish sports, as well as a football scheduling alliance. That would be 11 in football and 12 in what would be a remarkably deep basketball conference.
This seems to go along with the theory that BYU could be a football-only invite that is floating around on some other boards (e.g. the KSU one above). In that scenario the Big 12 would be back to 12 for all sports.

            • They're still talking about Notre Dame for non-football sports? That's so Chip Brown September 2011.

Yeah but it is from the "more reliable source", Chuck Carlton. Chip Brown 2011 = Chuck Carlton 2012.

                • "Floyd Thorpe III" lays it down HARD in the comments section of Bleacher Report:

                  http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1...itch-to-big-12

The wrong questions are being proposed here. How much would the Big 12 Gain by adding FSU and Clemson??

How much would FSU and Clemson gain by moving to the Big 12??

All of the advantages go to the Big 12--none to FSU and Clemson.
The Big 12 ganes 2 academically respectable programs while offerring very few in return--All of the ACC programs are Top 100. Big 12 Not so much. Alum and Students would have to travel 1/2 way across the country for every road game (closest might be WVU)--current Big 12 not so much (once every 2 years each team would have to come to Tally and Clemson).

Follow the money--the current ACC deal offers about 14 mil--Big 12 offers 20. Is 6 mil really worth all of these other headaches??

                  I think NOT.

My reading of the tea leaves is the following...

At the beginning, we thought we were hot shit and negotiated tough with all the BYUTV stuff. Then the Big 12 said thanks we'll get back to you. And when the phone never rang and TCU was announced and then West Virginia after that, we called back and said just kidding about BYUTV, we'll take whatever you have. But by then the Big 12 was looking primarily east. So the stuff you read about BYU negotiating tough was true but no longer the case.

I believe it as well. My experience has taught me that not all institutions "vote with their wallet". When it comes to BYU and its BofT all bets are off in my view. And it's not limited to BYU. Take Notre Dame for example. The Irish could gain a lot more revenue by joining the Big Ten and they have chosen not to several times. I don't agree with nor necessarily understand their rational for placing greater emphasis on other things over revenue. But I don't doubt they exist. And I don't think its all BYUtv either. BYU in the Big12 will be similar to Baylor without the geographical benefits and I question how well the Cougars will compete. Will fan interest hold up when BYU goes .500 in conference play? And its worth mentioning that Baylor just went on 3-years probabtion for recruiting violations while trying to compete in the Big 12.

But it was worth it... Baylor was almost competitive in the Big 12 in the recent years.

                            • BYU has been brought up on several occasions as a possibility, but the Cougars have such stringent requests regarding its own TV packages that even Texas says, “Damn! You’re giving us nothing!”
