The Big 12 really is run by a bunch of middle school morans.
to play really, really good football. Eight of ten in a bowl. Will get even better w/ TCU/WVU. Ya'll need to work this teevee stuff out and get on board. Honestly, we'd love to have you.
So uh, the Big 12 is going to only have 9 teams next year? Or is Chuck Neinas going to randomly tell Missouri to stay next season?
is okay for one year. Nice scheduling opportunity for the Cougars. Unfortunately, the Jayhawks won't play you as we're licking our wounds right now. We'll pick up your Weber State date.
Deaton, who was chairman of the Big 12 board, also elaborated for the first time on how the move to the SEC came about. He was miffed by Oklahoma’s flirtation with the Pac-12, a confusion heightened with the inclusion of Oklahoma State, Texas and Texas Tech in the discussions.
That came after Deaton and Oklahoma president David Boren had traveled to Texas A&M to try and persuade the Aggies to stay, and the Big 12 leaders had reaffirmed their commitment to the conference.
At that point, Deaton said, it became clear that he needed to put Missouri’s interests first.
It was Boren's fault.
ESPN Rumors elaborates on the WV availability angle:
While all parties agree that the Missouri Tigers will be joining the SEC eventually, there's some dispute as to when. The Big 12 expects Missouri to stick around for one more season, especially if West Virginia can't join right away. The Tigers, however, say they've played their last Big 12 contest, and will be joining the SEC next fall.
Vahe Gregorian of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the SEC will release its 2012 schedule next week, and Missouri will be included. That's the word from Missouri Chancellor Brady Deaton.
"We're going to the SEC (next year) regardless," said Deaton, who noted Mizzou's stated desire to move to the SEC in 2012 had come after "phone calls of assurance from the Big 12 commissioner and (chairman) of the board that it was OK to do that from their standpoint.
"We then later on got a call that said ... we're not sure about this, that, and the other, because we're not sure (about West Virginia's timetable)."
At which point Deaton recalled saying, "'Look, you've set things in motion, we've set things in motion. We're continuing down this pathway, and we feel certainly within our rights to do that according to (Big 12) bylaws.'"
Big 12 may be in a pickle.
Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!
For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."
The Mountain West and Big East (in football) got along ok with only 9 teams. The Big 12 will survive the couple of years if it comes to that. Most of the teams have a fairly easy option to pick up an extra non-conference game from a team just west of them.
That is what you get when you get an ex Senator involved in anything. It is just their nature to try to manipulate everything and when it blows up have the "who me" attitude.
Does anyone believe that the Big XII being down to 9 teams for one year is enough incentive to break the impasse with BYU about permanent membership? The Big XII isn't going to budge; BYU needs to.
If BYU is in the Big XII, then the BYU-Utah rivalry doesn't fade, it surges. Rather than becoming Utah-Utah State, it becomes Florida-Florida State, South Carolina-Clemson. And if so, then it could probably return to being a November game.
Get off your asses and start writing letters to the editor of the Daily Universe or whatever your paper is called down there. Take your team's fate (and the fate of our rivalry) into your own hands.

Larry Scott doesn't want rivalry games in November unless it's the god-almighty Notre Dame.
Nice one Big 12. If there's any brightside of the Big 12 going down to 9 teams, maybe a Big 12 team could pick-up BYU at the last minute, and give Idaho the finger and put them on hold.

Yeah, I realize Scott doesn't like it, but I could see it if BYU could somehow end up in the Big XII. With a November game against Notre Dame, it means that someone has to play a non-conference game, like Louisville-Lafayette this year, I think it was. If Notre Dame plays Stanford the last game of the year, and Utah plays BYU, then Cal can play Colorado. But they don't want to risk losing to a team that week unless they are truly a quality opponent like ND. An independent BYU is too risky; a Big XII BYU is a risk worth the reward.
