The Big 12 expansion groundswell

I know that Larry Scott has already said that the Longhorn Network makes it very difficult for Texas to be considered for the PAC-12. But in a lot of ways, it fits in nicely with the PAC-12 tv agreement in that it could end up being kind of a regional network. Yes, money issues would have to be discussed and there would have to be some maneuvering but if the PAC-12 could add Texas, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State and then either a Kansas, Missouri or Texas Tech and package them in with the Longhorn Network somehow...voila, PAC-16. The PAC-12 would officially be a beast of a conference.

Yeah, if Larry gave Texas their full share of the Pac-12 booty, rights to rebroadcast their games on LHN, and all their LHN money I am sure Texas would give it a go. Call Larry and let me know what he says.

If you are big 12 team Memphis, Louisville and Cincinatti are all closer than provo, have better basketball programs and football programs (sans memphis) are better as well. Not to mention the markets.

I'll concede that all 3 of those teams have better basketball programs than BYU. That's not debatable. But you're delusional if you think any of those 3 have better football programs. From Austin to Provo is just about 100-200 miles farther than Louisville and Cincinnati. BYU also has a larger TV market than either of those 3 cities and that's not even accounting the eyes on BYU outside of the Salt Lake DMA.

No, there definitely would have to be some give and take. But, you add Texas and the OK to the pot and the money for the conference goes up. I don't know how the Longhorn Network would work in all of this...but if both sides have some interest in each other, I think they could make something work which would be beneficial for both sides. If one side or the other is not willing to budge and negotiate, then obviously nothing would get done.

This was ESPN's criteria 2 years ago.

With that criteria, BYU was #25 all-time with 476 points. Louisville came in at #59 with 146 points. Cincinnati was #82 with 58 points. Memphis was #110 with -24 points.
