Here are some stats, both overall and recent:Originally posted by Mormon Red Death View PostThat is an interesting one. byu stretch from 1978 - 1989 is the big difference. Do they have it ranked in the last 10 years? or even 20? I couldnt find one.
It is only close if you look at the last 10 years. This includes Louisville's and Cincinnati's most successful periods, and BYU's least successful of the last 40 years. If you look only at the last 5 years, BYU is again, as usual, far above them.
The only criteria I have found so far in which Louisville or Cincinnati would rank above BYU is in BCS bowls, and I don't know if making a BCS bowl from the Big East is that great of an accomplishment.

I don't understand your point. BYU doesn't benefit from crossover too? Those other teams pull more than 25% of the viewership in their DMA?Originally posted by NorthwestUteFan View PostWhat percentage of the 919k homes in the SLC DMA will watch BYU football? 25% maybe? I was assuming some crossover from other local markets. Not every fan of a program lives within a few miles of the school."Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

You can argue DMA sizes and penetration all you want, but the truth is somewhat blurred.Originally posted by NorthwestUteFan View PostWhat percentage of the 919k homes in the SLC DMA will watch BYU football? 25% maybe? The most concrete number we have to look at in terms of what type of draw BYU football has is the deal that they were able to land with ESPN for going independent with football. Would Memphis/Cincy/Louisville be able to draw something similar? I doubt it.

That is a salient point although no one here knows the exact #s of the deal byu made.Originally posted by Sizzle View PostYou can argue DMA sizes and penetration all you want, but the truth is somewhat blurred.

You're right. That was a mistake. Let's give it to Princeton and Yale.Originally posted by LiveCoug View PostYes, Northwestern. Good call. Lot's of history. Like a 1-7 bowl record and the one win coming in 1948.

Regardless of #'s could those other three schools create any deal with ESPN. Louisville maybe, but only on the backbone of their basketball program and even then highly unlikely.Originally posted by Mormon Red Death View PostThat is a salient point although no one here knows the exact #s of the deal byu made."Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

Fine, but you have to factor in the percentage of local populations who are LDS (<2% nationwide?), the percentage of LDS members who are fans of college football (30%-60%?) and the percentage of LDS college football fans who watch byu football (60%-75%?).Originally posted by Coach McGuirk View PostConsidering the criteria here, BYUs DMA should include a 10 mile radius around all LDS church houses and temples. That would put us about top 10.

In Lville's defenseOriginally posted by Clark Addison View PostAverage Football Attendance, 2010:
BYU: 61,381
Louisville: 50,648 (up from 32K the year before)
Cincinnati: 35,067
As a side note Lville is one great place to see a college football game. Its right next to the kentucky downs and the tailgating was huge (I mean in the amount of people). The official seating capacity in the horseshoe-shaped facility was 42,000 through the 2008 season. An expansion project that started after the 2008 season temporarily reduced capacity to 40,000 for 2009 (although the official capacity remained unchanged); its completion for the 2010 season has brought the official capacity to 55,000 plus. [1] Attendance in the first year after expansion was completed averaged 50,648, or about 92% of the new capacity"Be a philosopher. A man can compromise to gain a point.
