Couldn't most Texas High Schools compete with NCAA FCS Football? Or was Friday Night Lights not real... and don't you dare tell me it's not!!! I have this image of High School players that look like Hercules down there, and I like it. I wanna believe!!!Last edited by PolyCougar; 10-19-2011, 11:51 AM.

You'd better delete that image quickly, if any of them are minors.Originally posted by PolyCougar View PostCouldn't most Texas High Schools compete with NCAA FCS Football? Also, how do you know what Hercules looks like "down there"?If we disagree on something, it's because you're wrong.

No worries. I think we're all feeling the same.Originally posted by PolyCougar View PostYeah, gotta apologize for that... sometimes when a bad mood, dark humor, and my fascination with church history combine... bad happens. So yeah, didn't need to go there. Besides... going all Porter Rockwell on Chip if I get another "stay tuned" in reference to BYU and the BIG 12, would just be way more cool. Porter is one of my favorite all time Mormon Bad-asses... right up there with Teancum.Jesus wants me for a sunbeam.

It's real all right but I wouln't say "most Texas High Schools". Certainly the best probably could. I live in the middle of one of the best/most competitive 5-A districts. My HS has sent players to Texas, Texas A&M, Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Missouri, etc.Originally posted by PolyCougar View PostCouldn't most Texas High Schools compete with NCAA FCS Football? I moved to Texas after graduation from BYU and growing up in Nebraska. I had thought nothing could top Nebraska prep football after playing at the highest level, winning a state championship, and playing with/against future Nebraska and NFL players. All that changed when I started watching Texas 5-A football. Maybe the top 2-3 Nebraska teams each year could compete with teams in my Texas 5A district.
Yes, Friday Night Lights is for real. I'll be watching it next fall in a brand new $60 million; 18,000 capacity stadium. One can argue whether that's the best use of taxpayer funds in this economy but one cannot argue whether there will be quality football being played under those lights on Friday nights.“Not the victory but the action. Not the goal but the game. In the deed the glory.”

Operation: Destabilize the Big East is happening!Originally posted by Omaha 680 View PostNY Post says BYU first in line
If the league goes to 12, BYU Louisville and West Virginia would all get invites. The Big East would then turn to Temple and hope Army can be convinced to join its football brethren. Most likely the Big East football conference will break and the league will go back to its basketball roots.
Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

That kinda love from the community is awesome to me. Two things that I just feel have to be that way, Texas Football and Indiana Basketball... where sport becomes religion. Maybe I'm too much into those traditions and things that makes small town sports almost poetic, but community support makes any sport better.Originally posted by Paperback Writer View PostIt's real all right but I wouln't say "most Texas High Schools". That's one reason when I was working local sports for the media I dug going to Morgan, Tremonton, and some of those small towns that lived for their High School sports, the whole town would shut down for a game, some even had season ticket parking... just a fun energy... minus the caliber of athletes in major recruiting beds.

LOLOriginally posted by swaimApparently BYU got back into the picture near the end of last week, when the LDS Church began to realize the landscape of college football is changing faster than they had anticipated. And if the Big 12 were to move on without the Cougars in this round of expansion they could find themselves without a conference home.
There is so much that can be said...none of it kind, all of it obvious...about this.
I, for one, thank common sense for finally speaking up...Don't worry about people stealing your ideas. If your ideas are any good, you'll have to ram them down people's throats.
