This is why their athletic budgets are so inflated. A meeting to discuss and ratify things they've already discussed and ratified. See you next week.

All these statements of very strong desire for XYZ school to stay brings up visions of Demi Moore's strenuous objection in A Few Good Men. They're about as effective, too.

Thrilling, indeed. I was reminded of this footage, apparently from an earlier board of directors meeting.

            • Chip Brown on the Big 12 meeting...

6:15 PM - Missouri apparently did not inform the Big 12 it was planning to withdraw from the league, according to one source with knowledge of the meeting.

"They are dragging out the inevitable adios. And the Big 12 continues to be good partners," the source said, adding that the Big 12 has not put a deadline on the Tigers.

A source close to the SEC said Missouri officials and SEC officials were expected to talk Tuesday about future plans.

Big 12 administrators say they'll be surprised if Missouri doesn't announce fairly soon that it plans to withdraw from the Big 12 and apply for membership in the Southeastern Conference.

5:45 PM -In a previously scheduled meeting in Dallas delayed by flight arrivals affected by fog, the Big 12 Board of Directors - made up of presidents and chancellors from all nine schools as well as TCU - discussed several issues facing the league.

The board reaffirmed previous action to execute institutional grants of Tier 1 (over-the-air) and Tier 2 (cable) television rights to the conference.

The Board also discussed a wide range of topics including NCAA legislation, the Bowl Championship Series, and exploration of a conference dedicated TV network.

Additionally, a strong desire for the University of Missouri to maintain its Big 12 affiliation was expressed.

Sources have indicated to Orangebloods.com Missouri could be meeting with officials from the Southeastern Conference as early as Tuesday to discuss MU's seemingly imminent departure from the Big 12 and application to the SEC.

Sources have told OB the leader to replace Mizzou is West Virginia, although Louisville is also receiving strong consideration.

Sources tell OB Notre Dame will decide in 60 days if it will move its non-football sports out of the Big East (and possibly into the Big 12).

              Stay tuned.

              • Looks like Dick Harmon reads CUF. A couple of hours after we call him out, he hastily puts together an article about today's meeting.

                http://www.deseretnews.com/article/7...-meetings.html

I say hasty because he obviously does not know what the voting requirements are for the PAC 12. He also just copied much, if not all, of the article linked above that compares BYU, UWV, and Louisville by the numbers.

It was interesting though the tidbit that he provided regarding the ratings for BYU-OSU. I was pleasantly surprised to see the ESPN guy describe it as "huge".

Probably the most direct and clearest indication of Mizzou's intentions to date as Deaton wishes the Big 12 "the best and all of that".

                      • Apparently one of the things decided in yesterday's B12 meeting? mizzou has to stay one more year in the B12 before leaving for the SEC.

And now in the same article the NY Post is reporting that UWV is gonzo.

10 teams for next season and now everyone can get back to work.

It is odd there are so many people reporting so many different things. No one seems to fear being accountable. It is like the political pundits on TV. They predict and miss more often than they are right, but they keep getting asked for their opinion.

Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”
