Suddenly today this story comes out. Why now? Because these are the expansion teams, folks.
Why now a piece about how BYU and UH actually make the Big 12 better? We know ESPN and Fox asked for a seat at the negotiating table last week. Trotter has been trying like everyone else to find out what is being negotiated. I would be surprised if he doesn't have a source within ESPN. I don't think he puts this out there today if he knows the Big 12 is going another direction. Why would he? This has the look of being pre-PR for a major announcement. And yes, this is what I want to believe, but you can't really say it's not a plausible theory.

Cheering for BYU is easy for us exmo alumni that don't give a crap about what the church does. It isn't really that strange. BYU is our school.Originally posted by Art Vandelay View PostI was thinking about poor man's SU's rants last night. Why would you want BYU in the B12? You specifically call for the condemnation of the sponsoring organization, yet still want to support one of its most visible arms? I can understand an less active or exmo having a soft spot for missionaries (especially if they served one), or appreciating the beauty of Motab, but rooting for kids - I assume you don't know- to win a game, seems strange. There are schools closer in proximity, and closer in idealogy, who are honestly better at football and basketball than byu. Why not switch which laundry you cheer for?Dyslexics are teople poo...

Don't worry about people stealing your ideas. If your ideas are any good, you'll have to ram them down people's throats.

Let me add to this by saying that Trotter is clearly not at liberty to say what he may have been told is happening during negotiations. But if he has the trust of his counterpart in the finance office, he is getting some info. I don't think that's a stretch. On the other hand, he DOES have every right to put out an opinion piece on a couple of the teams being discussed, along with some data to back up his opinions. At the very least he should know enough to not embarrass himself by talking about BYU and UH while the Big 12 is on the verge of announcing they've just invited Cincy and Memphis instead. I doubt he's dumb enough to put this out there without checking with his source in the finance office to make sure these teams aren't off the table. It's one thing if he writes this story 3 months ago. The timing of it coming out today when everyone expects real news to come out soon is interesting. Besides, if he talks up BYU and UH and those are the teams announced soon after, it can only make him look better.Originally posted by BlueK View PostSuddenly today this story comes out. Why now? that makes perfect sense, but while I'm not sure about you, there are many others that certainly seem to give a crap about what the church does, despite being "out".Originally posted by Flystripper View PostCheering for BYU is easy for us exmo alumni that don't give a crap about what the church does. I root for a school represented by a faith I no longer practice, named after a racist, bigoted, lunatic.

As I often say: "Some must push and some must pull!" Flystripper said "ya uhhh to hell with this." Then set up a cabin somewhere in the Rocky Mountains and just waives to naively faithful trudging west and chuckles at the bitter pullers quietly screaming as they trudge east.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View Postthat makes perfect sense, but while I'm not sure about you, there are many others that certainly seem to give a crap about what the church does, despite being "out".Do Your Damnedest In An Ostentatious Manner All The Time!

I'm choosing to mostly ignore your fatuity here and instead overwhelm you with so much data that you'll maybe, just maybe, realize that you have reams to read on this subject before you can contribute meaningfully to any conversation on this topic.

Yeah its hard for some people to just let go I guess. Rather than rail against an organization that you disagree with, why not get busy doing the things that you love? There is lots of enjoyment to be had. College football is nearly here. Summer is nearly over. There are fish that need to be caught, golf balls that need to be struck, waves to be ridden, and bbqs to be had. I just don't know how people have the time or energy to be angry, what a drain.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View Postthat makes perfect sense, but while I'm not sure about you, there are many others that certainly seem to give a crap about what the church does, despite being "out".Dyslexics are teople poo...

This is a pointless article, and the author pretty much admits it. Boren listed the five factors, and the article only looks at one of them, as a what if. It's hopeless for BYU. HOPELESS.Originally posted by BlueK View PostSuddenly today this story comes out. Why now? Because these are the expansion teams, folks.

Here are the two controlling Boren factors: 1) overall reputation, 2) access to media markets. "Fan base" doesn't make that much of a real world bottom line difference. "Competitiveness" is ephemeral and also partly dependent on your schedule. When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.

Keep digging. Find me one national article that says BYU is out based on any of those factors. You missed the article yesterday about ESPN about to unleash a direct streaming option. this is where fanbase makes a huge difference and where sports coverage moves into the 21st century. The days of sports rights being subsidized by non-sports fans who have sports channels on their system they never watch are dying quickly. BYU is in much better shape here than even most P5 schools.Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostHere are the two controlling Boren factors: 1) overall reputation, 2) access to media markets. You're admittedly not even that much of a sports fan, yet you know more than a national sportswriter about things like this. Yeah, right. I've never fully understood the psyche of "fans" like you who clearly care a lot more about the rival school than the one they supposedly like. Anyway, the signs are out that you're about to get some bad news. When it comes out I hope it doesn't ruin your day too much. By the way, how are the utes looking this year? I haven't been paying much attention. Never mind, you're probably not the one to ask. ;-)Last edited by BlueK; 08-11-2016, 11:54 AM.
