It's funny how you all project three games into eternity. Whatever makes you feel better. In the Celestial Kingdom we will experience eternal progression. You all can go ahead and enjoy your lollipop schedule in the Telestial kingdom with eternity to contemplate the terrible things that BYU did and continues to do to deserve this fate.

And yet, if it was up to you, you'd love that your team have a winless season in football and basketball in a BCS conference!Originally posted by Goatnapper'96 View PostI think the Utah example is a bit flawed. However, it might not be a good indicator that BYU will have lost by 44 points to a program that might accomplish something never done in Pac history - to have winless conference season in both hoops and football in the same year!

We know how accurate some of the inside sources have been and how higly you regard themOriginally posted by TripletDaddy View PostThere is a break in the quotation between the B12 expansion and the BYU portion. I read "a source close to the school" to be a reference to a different person than the B12 source referenced at the beginning of the blurb. IOW, a source close to BYU.
Other than that, I agree with you.PLesa excuse the tpyos.

I would most definitely go independent rather than having losing season after losing season. I would rather be BYU and independent and winning games than Arizona, Colorado or Utah.Originally posted by il Padrino Ute View PostAnd yet, if it was up to you, you'd love that your team have a winless season in football and basketball in a BCS conference!

That is short-sighted and, frankly, dumb. I'd rather have a chance to compete against the best year in and year out than be independent playing patsies.Originally posted by WashingtonCoug View PostI would most definitely go independent rather than having losing season after losing season. This whole saga has warped my ability to detect sarcasm, so I don't know if you're being serious here. Do you believe it's possible there are still ongoing discussions? It sounds to me like BYU had a shot and decided to give independence a go for a while longer with the thought they can always join the Big 12 later. I'll admit that this is just my impression based on what reports are available so I could be entirely off base.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostNo. Let's wait until we have credible evidence.
Edit: If this is the case and we really think the opportunity will be around when we're ready later, I think it's a horrible decision.

I agree 100%. Even with a bad record in conference play you are still insured for future seaons (i.e. you still get to play OU and Texas every year). Plus, you still get your share of the money. I don't see a negative here. BYU fans would adjust just fine. Sure there are some that would stop going to the game, but those numbers are small. This season is a perfect example: even though we aren't very good, how fun would it be to have top ranked OU coming to Provo next week? I'd be excited!Originally posted by atheistcougar View PostThat is short-sighted and, frankly, dumb. I think most BYU fans would disagree with this. I'd rather see BYU play with the Big Boys more than anything... Having a OU vs BYU or a BYU vs Baylor of BU vs KSU etc sound much more fun then SJSU,. Weber St. USU etc...Originally posted by WashingtonCoug View PostI would most definitely go independent rather than having losing season after losing season. Even if we lose more I'd still be pumped about those games vs the lames ass schedule we got going on right now... Hell, they are still trying to fill schedules for next year etc...

Damn. I was really hoping that here in Missouri the fandangled interwebs weren't in place yet. No luck. Now I find out from the Mrs that our flight back on Saturday is during the game. If you want me to do anything to anyone or any living grove of trees while I'm in Columbia this afternoon just let me know.
I know that Mizzou has nothing to do with our situation but I wouldn't be a BYU fan if I didn't try and blame someone else."Either evolution or intelligent design can account for the athlete, but neither can account for the sports fan." - Robert Brault

His statement isn't even worth a response. I am more jealous of Utah today than I was when it became known that they were making the jump. Back then I still had a reasonable hope that given the choice we would make the correct choice.Originally posted by EuropeanFootballMale View PostBaloney"Either evolution or intelligent design can account for the athlete, but neither can account for the sports fan." - Robert Brault

A source "close to BYU" who admits in the same quote that he doesn't know. I'd also agree that I'd rather be independent than be a crappy football school like Arizona or Baylor or Washington State. But we are BYU, so I'd rather be in the B12.
